Comments on the AtariBox IndieGogo campaign are slowing down. Two recent favorites:

Why are you using kernel v4.10? It’s very outdated and AMD performance has significantly improved in 4.17. Even the current LTS is v4.14… You’ve said in your Q/A that you use a “heavily modified kernel”, I hope this doesn’t mean that the device will be heavily behind security and performance patches. It looks like you’ll lock down the device too much and I can think of nothing good coming from this to the end user. You could’ve achieved your (stupid) DRM outside the actual kernel.

So, if "Atari" is now "so much more than video games," should I make another thread to talk about Atari Blockchain?

Nah, I didn't think so either. Mostly because there's not much there there. Emphasis mine:

Our brand is known worldwide and means much more than videogames. We believe we can exclusively impact the growth strategy of many start-up companies at the convergence of Entertainment, Digital Technology and Blockchain, by using our brand in a smart manner.

Based on this premise, Atari capitalizes on the awareness of the Atari brand to promote Atari Blockchain, by taking stakes in high-growth startups evolving in the blockchain space or with a potential path to such technology, in exchange for an Atari brand license.

To date, investments include the following:

• Unlimited Networks, Ltd. (Atari Blockchain platform)

• Short Shot, Inc. (casino games)

Bayside Games, Inc. (peer-to-peer e-sports games)

• LGBTQutie, Inc. (community website)

We are actively looking for additional opportunities. To learn more, please contact: ventures@atari.com

In other words: "We have Asteroids and Centipede. Can you help implement something so we can claim more notches in our portfolio? We'll let you play around with Centipede and Asteroids (all rights reserved)."

Am I not giving them enough credit? Is there gold in them thar hills or is this just what it looks like, which is chasing a fad?

Or worse, a cynical attempt to juice their stock without producing anything of value? Again, emphasis mine:

Shares in the Paris-based company have soared more than 60 percent since it gave further details of its crypto push on Feb. 8, after first mentioning some of the plans in December. Atari is taking a stake in a company that’s building a blockchain-based digital entertainment platform and, as part of that agreement, it will create its own digital currency called Atari Token. The company is also expanding its online casino-gaming partnership with Pariplay Ltd. to allow gambling with digital currencies.

“Blockchain technology is poised to take a very important place in our environment and to transform, if not revolutionize, the current economic ecosystem, especially in the areas of the video game industry and online transactions,” Atari Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Frederic Chesnais said in the statement. “Our aim is to take strategic positions with a limited cash risk, in order to best create value with the assets and the Atari brand.”

Atari isn’t the only stock that has benefited from links with cryptocurrencies. Shares of Eastman Kodak Co. jumped 245 percent in two days after it said last month it’s working with a company that promotes paparazzi photos to offer a blockchain-based service for paying photographers. And, in perhaps the most bizarre of such moves, the unprofitable iced-tea company formerly known as Long Island Iced Tea Corp. gained 183 percent in a day after re-branding as Long Blockchain Corp. in December.

The Atari stock price has corrected back down to 46 cents per share, which IMHO is more than it's worth, but what does this hater know about such things? Oh, and the Kodak and Iced Tea companies corrected soon after their gimmick announcement, too. In the case of Long Blockchain Corp it went even further down than from where it started, was accused of misleading investors, and got delisted. At least Atari has Centipede and Asteroids, and they would never mislead anyone. :lolblue:

It would be cool if some developers out there are secretly developing cool games for atari but they dont wanna say it cuz it would cause controversy among VCS haters that could hurt the developers reputation

I'm actually developing a game for the VCS, and I've openly stated it. No hate comments yet. Lol :P

God God man! This thing is a Linux PC. Why would anyone with any reputation bother to develop specifically for this when they can actually reach customers on Steam or any number of other channels now?

It only makes sense to develop it as a hobby. Any earnings is gravy peanuts.

Well, unless one believes Atari's going to sell a lot more consoles.

Fixed.

Maybe it wasn't broken to begin with. Ever heard of peanut gravy!!??

Remember when. Play again. So much more than an Ouya. Simple as that. Wishful thinking. Keep the faith.

No refunds.

I'm having a hard time figuring this out. Certainly they can't mean 40 years of history and 40 years of innovation.

I get the "40 years of history" since Atari as a brand name is technically over 40 years old, and you can trace its history as it was handed off from owner to owner like an unwanted, re-gifted fruitcake. But...

Hang on a sec'... I need to check something...

Wow.

That's a first.

Every time I've Googled "taco (something)" for this thread, inevitably something comes up. Taco Toasters, for example. Every time.

But nobody has yet made a taco fruitcake. Or a fruitcake taco.

There are fruit tacos...

and cake tacos...

post-2641-0-50000700-1533073566.jpg

but no fruitcake tacos.

I'm slightly disappointed in the internet today.

Where was I?

Right... innovation.

Laughable. I think that was my point. I forget now.
