So this thread is about convincing people why they shouldnt like something?

It's about tacos and the fact that Atari SA made fake videos of their so called VCSBOXorsomethingorother to get cash out of people.

It's about the fact that a pseudo company can raise three million dollars on nothing more than an empty case, non-functional controllers, and vague promises.

You know... with all of these trademark holders, companies that take advantage of old brand names to make a quick buck, vaporware consoles, smoke and mirrors, etc, etc... I am surprised no one had blamed this mess on these little creeps....

Member when South Park was still funny, relevant, and entertaining? Yeah, me neither.

It's about 500 pages long, and counting.

Have we surpassed the Coleco Chameleon topic yet? Someone needs to do a head to head comparison. Crunch those numbers.

Yeppers, it's somewhere in the 490s, I think. Kinda hoping Kevtris' FPGA console thread does the same. :)

They are still relevant, just not as entertaining. Hell, they crank out episodes in a week, and deliver like an hour before air time. And they still work in commentary from the major real life story of the week in every episode.

What they have done the past 3 seasons or so (that I personally don't agree with) is move away from the stand alone episode format and do season long connected episodes that are politically themed.

If they get back to the standalone episode of the week format, then I think they will get the entertaining piece back as well as relevant.

"Atari," the talentless, litigious, idea-free brand custodians from France? What about em?

They really want things to happen

They really want things to happen

So much more than video games.

They also do:

  1. blockchain namedropping to juice their stock price (which corrected after they failed to do anything with it)
  2. litigation against people who make better versions of their games (until public shaming makes them hire rather than sue)
  3. crowdfunding bog standard computers comprised of someone else's hardware, software, and money
  4. nursing 40-year-old IP that was stale after 5 years
  5. marketing faux retro t-shirts
  6. sending cease and desist letters to fans making stickers of products no longer available that does not appear on their IP lists
  7. thinly disguised exploitation of LGBTQ under a half-assed guise of celebration
  8. re-re-releasing the same Atari 2600 ROMs on different platforms
  9. brand whoring to barely-related casino games
  10. milking more out of RollerCoaster Tycoon than a gentleman would
  11. attempting "lifestyle brands" like speaker hats for over a hundred dollars, promising multiplayer bluetooth features that will likely never arrive
  12. repurposing other peoples' kickstarters as their own work, while failing to add value to their product
  13. conducting embarrassing, content-free press interviews, then lying about it afterwards
  14. implying that they can do more than their track record or abilities would allow
  15. encouraging a whole new generation of trollish brand ambassadors with dubious motives
  16. working with Elon Musk to put jurassic games in expensive electric cars
  17. having a website that goes down for days at a time without explanation (seriously, it's down right now)

All new accounts have to come DIRECTLY to the Taco thread. Didn't you read the rules?

Yep, sure enough, atari.com is down here, too. And Tin Giant is apparently still all about sandwiches and hipster coffee.

I like sandwiches and coffee. It draws me to their site.

Yeah what's with the Tacos thing. When I started reading this thread I thought of a bar called the "Pink Taco" which has sexual connotations. 500 pages is way to long for me to go through for the answer but I'm guessing it's sexual in nature.

Blame this guy:

All I know is that I have a future financial decision to make: AtariBox or tacos?

I'm going with tacos. They have a better chance of reaching production, and also taste better than plastic.

No. Nothing of that nature. This is a family show. Tacos are good for the family as they are about the only thing that gets everyone around the table these days in our house....

x=usr(1536) will go down in history as the first ....decades even centuries later he'll still be a legend as the father of the trillions of taco posts.

My latest thoughts...

As I recall, someone once said, Tacos are real, this is not. Then at some point they began to call the AtariBox the "VCS", which is an extreme insult to those of us with a real fondness for the VCS. It's like saying The Remake is always better than the original.

P.S. It's not sexual but when they renamed AtariBox the "VCS" I yelled something that some would consider sexual.

Something has to actually "exist" before one can like or dislike it........I think.....

^Yup!

You bring up some good points there. To answer your first one

blah blah blah (It goes on for what seems like an Eternity)

So there you go.

I edited your post for brevity.

Not because I'm a mean guy, though.

I have no problems with you or your opinions...which are...L o n g ...

I was merely demonstrating that if someone doesn't want to know the ins and outs of your opinion, they can breeze right over it.

Just like they are doing to this post right now haha...

Some of us around here have the attention span of a goldfish. But for most of us, it's much shorter.

Nostalgia is a hell of a Drug! And around here we are often getting a contact high. I find it ever so annoying when someone tries to cash in on this, thinking I look like an easy mark and it is even worse when it's someone hostile to the community, who is trying to tell you they were there with you all along.

The internet and video games are pastimes for when you can't get out and live life. If you can spend tonight with a family and girlfriend, you damn well should.

I thank you for sharing your point of view, but I honestly find it perplexing. To me, it sounds exactly like you're saying "Building a multimedia console is bad when Microsoft does it, but good when Atari does it, even though Microsoft is far better at it."

It's a logic pretzel to me.

These Logic Pretzels are making me Thirsty!

Exactly right! And I probably couldn't have cultivated such a perfect list in a hundred years! (I suppose a nitpicking guy would say...) You did leave out their Cease and Desist to AA Member Marc Oberhauser, Blocking publication of his book; An Unofficial book (Clearly stated) about the history of Atari. And there's the legions of fake fans who think "This Looks Awesome! Can't wait to Play!"

But nutari has 3 things going for them:

1. The Atari Logo

2. Wood Grain

3. It's ribbed for her pleasure!*

*My way of saying some like the shell**

**I prefer Taco Shells!!

Personally, I'd say that all those Rollercoaster Tycoon spinoffs are forgiven because of the one that turned out all well.

Mind you, you wouldn't exactly need the benefit of hindsight to figure out that it'd be the one that Chris Sawyer was directly involved in which was most likely to hit the mark.
