Matt_B #12751 Posted September 5, 2018 Can I point out that it's practically always a Burroughs B205 in the background? Hollywood might not have had a clue when it came to what computers did or how they worked back in the 60s, but they sure knew a good set of blinkenlights when they saw one.
82-T/A #12752 Posted September 5, 2018 Please to be thanking you for the excite words of speaking! Hahaha... man... I really want you to be wrong. But I'm becoming more and more sure you're right. I'm never going to see my $250 again. Lol...

+frankodragon #12754 Posted September 5, 2018 Every day, Atari SA sounds like a bad infomercial. FRED: "You can get this working...did I say working? I mean a do-it-yourself and get it working so YOU can get all the bugs out box that's even gas powered! It even shaves your lettuce for when you want tacos! How does $299.99 sound?" AUDIENCE: "Booooo! Hiss!" FRED: "Okay, I'll throw in some hair care products and 1001 ways to cook snails! Now do we have a deal?" AUDIENCE: "Boo! Hiss!" FRED: "Alright! The gas powered box, the hair care products, the snail cookbook, a lifetime supply of tacos shells, either crunchy or soft and a Burroughs B205 to entertain your guests! All for $299.95! You even save four cents!!" AUDIENCE: "Yaaaay!"
racerx #12755 Posted September 5, 2018 I almost wish old PowerDubs was still around. If he's had the stock long enough he could still make money, but I'd sell pretty quick. The market seems to realize the emperor has no clothes.
Lodmot #12757 Posted September 5, 2018 DUDE, seriously??? It seems Microsoft has proven you wrong Well, they did successfully dupe people into paying extra money for online multiplayer when they never had to before. Seriously, how can you say taking advantage of consumers like that is not evil? Nothing in this world is free. If you are not aware of HOW you are paying for all these "free" tools Google offers you then I just don't know what to say anymore Being that you don't actually state how I'm paying for those services (like the others), that likely means you know that they are free, and I had a valid point there but you didn't want to admit defeat. Alright, so I guess I need to unsubscribe from this topic to stop getting notifications for it. I already know where it's going to go anyway-- another 100+ pages of taco jokes, people getting bashed for having opinions, and no actual discussion regarding the original topic whatsoever. Alright, an old saying in internet says: if you are not paying for the product/service then you ARE the product/service. Happy now ?!?!
Matt_B #12759 Posted September 5, 2018 Yeah, it's not exactly a secret that Google make almost all their money through serving advertising and even their products that don't directly do that still tend to accumulate useful metadata to help target adverts more effectively. Other companies, Microsoft included, do similar things but nowhere near to the same extent.
Lodmot #12760 Posted September 5, 2018 Alright, an old saying in internet says: if you are not paying for the product/service then you ARE the product/service. Happy now ?!?! ……. +phoenixdownita #12761 Posted September 5, 2018 ……. That doesn't even make any sense. o.o I'm a service made by Google? Lol. yep, all of your info is sold on the market to advertisers and other entities willing to pay for them. Every site you visit that they can track, how long you stayed there, the exact navigation path you followed, the source IP you called from (and the country, ISP it belongs to), what computer you used (was it a new tablet, a phone, a work PC). They can get extremely detailed.

+phoenixdownita #12763 Posted September 5, 2018 Now this makes sense. Though their ads are probably really well placed. I guess YouTube has the majority of ads.. Ads are the least of your worries, at least you know they are there to sell you something, there are tons of other entities interested in your traceable online behavior as in some occurrences it may give away your intentions well before you enact them. In same cases it is good to know they can track and stop a terrorist act in the making or a pedophile wannabe or a sexual predator about to strike, that is all good. But they can also infer when you are about to quit your job and maybe inform your company or the likes, or judging your behavior as dangerous in some regard and indirectly cause the raise of your car insurance premium, or make you ineligible to obtain a mortgage for some god forsake query you typed like "how to lower your monthly payment", "how to deal with a mortgage default", etc... or fail to obtain an interview for that company you really want to work for because it turns out you "like" cats more than dogs and that happens to be a weak predictor of mismatch wrt the company culture .... it's just obscenely weird.

There were a bunch of other companies doing the same thing at the time. They won't be able to pull that particular stunt again. Just like how they're squandering the "VCS" brand now.

Good, they can attempt to sell me a lot of things. Lol. I am very good at ignoring ads and just concentrating on the things I'm purposefully browsing the internet for (unless the ad appeals to me in some way, which RARELY happens) Since I'm not a felon, I don't care whether Google are tracing me or not. I've literally never heard of Google informing peoples' employers about them planning to switch jobs, but I've heard about Indeed doing it. I call that an invasion in privacy, simply put.
