@The Historian - since you're here and helping Feargal Mac with Gameband, can you give any information about the status of the Gameband?

Genuine question here - can you explain how they'll get anywhere near that number? Assuming this even releases, they'll have a tough time breaking into the six figures in such a competitive market and at the price point they're targeting. If we go by the crowdfunding and not counting the people who kicked in just for the controllers or other lower non-system tiers, they probably barely broke 10,000 units thus far. As with anything, once you get past the true believers and the earliest of adopters, the hard part kicks in. So they're still around 990,000 units or so short of what you think they'll sell. And again, assuming it comes out in spring 2019 (and most likely later), the pricing of the big three and most likely even newer generation of the popular streaming boxes (Apple TV, Amazon, etc.) will be even more aggressively competitive and appealing, both in price and performance. So yeah, I find it a stretch it will get anywhere near the numbers you're talking about.

And as Curt reminded us, they've already cut and run on the thing before they even released a single unit to crowd funding backers, if they even do that much. Thing is, based on every bit of available evidence and zero conjecture, the best their backers can expect to see, if they're very very lucky at this point, is a mini linux board PC in an atariesque looking plastic box with the $5 atari greatest hits regurgitated once again. If it even makes it that far, the instant it's released, it's unsupported because they've already stated they will spin it off for any future development. They made that clear before the crowdfunder was closed, yet people still threw their money away on it. A fool and his money being what it is.

What people don't think about is that Rich people don't spend their money unless they are sure to get a return, this is why Fred used Other people's money, people who want shiny things. If this was any other product he would have had to go through hoops to get even $1,000,000 to put towards this nonsense, & not having a prototype?

This guy is like a watered down version of Eddie Lampert, having fun with free money. Fred has NO ONE to answer to, this is not a real business it is a joke (Indiegogo).

Eddie Lampert is funneling money so he can keep sears open longer to collect on rent on the property he owns!

he does not care about Sears. The problem is that people have no self control, the power of open market means that if you have a crap product, the market says NO! but for some reason "Coleco Chameleon, Atari F-box just brings out the fans with money in hand... I thought Apple fans were bad but man! Retrogaming fans beat them to it... handing over cash to people who have no track record or even a prototype.. yet will part with hundreds of dollars on a promise. These people need to vote with dollars.. put back the money in your pocket and wait until these clowns answer BASIC QUESTIONS. they should be begging US not US them!

The console will not have physical media, so 3rd party, or any party support is everything.

Without something like an App Store or Google store, this just becomes a very expensive Raspberry Pi where you are on your own to find games. At least there is a thriving Raspberry Pi community, so you can share games and software and other stuff to put on your Raspberry Pi. Any thing you want to do with the Pi has probably already been done, and you can find out how to do it from the community. But, without support and a really great store, the Atari VCS Box just becomes a more powerful OUYA with nothing to do on it.

It should run Steam and GOG in the user partition. Just like any other, better PC you can buy yourself, right now.

I wonder about Biff's jungle game. Wasn't it already dismissed by Atari, or are they starting to hook up rejected developers in order to have anything to provide if the system even gets made?

hello Bill, not the first time we talk together

for the 1 million I explain myself :

Atari is just the brand behind this console

the console will be a platform of a new generation

she is not trying to compete with the bigger ones, but to do something different

for the moment apart from the look, we have absolutely nothing on this console

we will have surprises, nice surprises

but as everyone I am impatient and I am disappointed with the lack of communication for this project

wait and hope for news before Christmas 2018

Piffle. Linux is not new, computers less so. Name a single innovative thing on offer by this thing that isn't done elsewhere, right now, better, cheaper.

I'm not sure what your first language is, but whatever it is, how do you say "gullible"?
