New Atari Console that Ataribox?

All the cool kids crowdfund their lawsuits using CrowdJustice. I’ve seen it mentioned in a bunch of scam Kickstarter projects. Granted, it doesn’t usually amount to anything, but if someone wants to try to get something going, it’s there. But I honestly don’t see much of a point. Best case scenario is they settle for some amount far less than the amount raised. Then the lawyers take their cut. By the time it gets distributed we all get 15 bucks or something. Nothing will be accomplished and no one will learn anything from it. Kickstarter will still do their thing, Feargilicious will get his million from Atari and then after blowing it will come back here and scam a new bunch of suckers for a couple hundred grand and the cycle will continue. Besides, it’s ultimately on us. We gave willingly to this campaign. Everyone should have known this might be the outcome. It sucks, but people scam people on here and Kickstarter is well known for not giving a flying f#@k because they got their money and have some perfectly worded disclaimers that absolve them from any and all responsibilities when a project goes south. So sue away, you’ll just be out more money and these f#@kers won’t be hurt at all.

Common sense is like a mountain. It's a beautiful thing that should smack you in the face, but it can take several millennia to become apparent to some people.

Just stumbled across the Indiegogo page that was left open on my work computer this morning, and I wasn't just seeing things -- the campaign was at $3,011,857 before. When I refreshed the page it went down to $3,002,786.

Try refreshing the page some more... maybe it'll keep going down. :ponder:

About the console, interesting developments. I have no idea that the game band guy was behind rjis

Yeah, this irritating guy's video making pointless observations about legal proceedings published to the internet was already posted a few pages back. A nerd grumbling about anything on Youtube from his basement using his best impression of a radio guy's voice just makes it even more sad. The least they could do is put a little production value in them and quit thinking we care to see your pasty face version of an amateur news anchor. Wait, CNN and Fox are on the other line. Your moment has arrived!

Haven't talked to him in a while. I'm a backer too.

So you have absolutely no information about the status of the Gameband since the last backer update in April (7 months ago)?

You haven't talked to Feargal in the last 7 months?

What I don't understand -- perhaps because I'm old and grouchy -- is why "investigative reports" like this can't be done in writing? Yeah yeah I know, clicks and pennies, and since he's the "dreamcast guy" he likes the video medium, but there aren't that many facts here. It doesn't need to take ten minutes to unpack.

Jackass #1 was making the AtariBox. Now he's not. So he's suing for his lost wages and some imaginary profit he thinks he would have realized if he had not been fired.

Jackass #2 holds the Atari brand. He countersuing, probably for breach of other aspects of the contract.

Jackass #3 through 11,402 gave money to #1 and #2. They're never going to see that again.

It's good to be concise!

P.S. If you're this dude, I tip my hat to you

Youtube puts ads in the videos every 4 to 5 minutes, so people stretch out a 2 minute video to over 10 minutes so they can get 3 or 4 ads in the video instead of one ad playing before a short video.

The thing with YouTube is that it is a game that the creators are trying to play. It's all driven by analytics with one of the most important being minutes viewed, the more time you can get people to watch your videos the more weight you get in the suggested videos algorithm and then your videos will get placed higher on the suggested videos side bar, which drives more minutes viewed (there are a few key variables but MV is one of the more important) .

240,000 minutes viewed per year is now the milestone you need to reach in order to monetize your videos, that's a lot. Reaching and exceeding that number is driving YouTube channels to create content in a certain way. This is why you see a lot of the face in front of a camera type of videos, one shot take videos, game play videos, and etc. It's simply because they are easy to make. YouTube'rs are encouraged to upload daily, twice daily...or even more. Since good videos take awhile to make, you end up with a lot of filler. Placing ads doesn't really figure into this as having good numbers is the real force in how creators choose to make videos.

You need to upload as much as possible, have a nice camera and back drop, make short videos (so the viewers don't get bored), be super duper enthusiastic (to keep the viewers attention), and post videos that follow only the trending topics (because viewers all all lemmings). That's the formula and is why so many YouTube videos are all the same. Rinse...repeat...rinse.....repeat...rinse...

To be honest they kinda have to do this. It works and 4000 hours watched is a tough goal. This puts a lot of pressure on the video makers to craft videos in a way that will improve their stats (and get your videos in the suggested list). If you don't get there, you are just giving your time away for free. YouTube is more than happy to profit from it though.

Ok, so we seem to agree these one shot pizza face in the camera vids are pointless crap with little to no value generated to just make a buck for the geeks making them. So lets also agree to avoid reposting them wherever possible or Im gonna post these...

Youtube option for no-ads is worth it if it has replaced your TV, I cannot stand ads. Plus when you get in to the "weird zone" of youtube it is like a free for all, people uploading anything they want.. ie the good stuff xD you all know what i'm talking about..... ASMR Taco making videos :P

Which is the better scenario?

The VCS is released on time, doesn't meet promises, but updates and fixes are promised, possibly at additional cost. Leading "true believers" to continue to back the company.

or

The VCS is called a complete bust, never delivered and hopefully thousands of backers will take it as a lesson learned not to support anything with the Atari brand.

Of course there's the third Rainbow Unicorn scenario where the VCS is delivered on time, is everything and more than promised and backers can gloat while sniffing Rainbow Unicorn farts!

Eurogamer tells us about Atari's latest rollercoaster game on the Switch.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-11-16-ataris-crowdfunded-rollercoaster-tycoon-for-switch-launches-in-two-weeks

Atari's decision to ask fans for cash (and a lot of it - $250 minimum in return for some of the game's possible eventual profit) went down like a lead balloon. Why did big publisher Atari need the money? Why was the game's development being led by mobile game developer Nvizzio? Why did Atari say it might use some of the funds for other things?

Today's announcement answers none of those things, and after re-reading our story from earlier in the year I noticed the game's crowdfunding page and pitch video have now been pulled from the internet. Hmm!

Atari's 2014 RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile earned a historic 1/10 back when Eurogamer still doled out review scores, while its 2016 PC followup RollerCoaster Tycoon World earned an Avoid warning. The more recent mobile game RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch - also developed by Nvizzio - is supposed to be slightly better. "Easily the best RollerCoaster Tycoon experience since RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 was released back in 2004," one reviewer quoted on the game's App Store listing notes, which is faint praise indeed. Here's hoping RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures turns out better.

Just go read it, the first comment is pure gold.
