New Atari Console that Ataribox?

Recommended Posts

HA-ha, Pdubs was shilling for that thing so hard. One of the replies says, "Sorry for your completely foreseen and predictable loss."

Todd's email auto responds with a message to use Jean-Marcel Nicolai's Atari email instead. He hasn't updated his LinkedIn or Facebook to reflect the change. This doesn't seem like the kind of news that "Atari" will be announcing loudly.

Nicolai seems legit, but he's wearing many (non-speaker) hats as COO HEAD OF GAMES - CHIEF DIGITAL OFFICER - ADVISOR-INVESTOR-BOARD MEMBER - ENTERTAINMENT-DIGITAL-BLOCKCHAIN&CRYPTO. It also appears that like Fred, he has been with Atari for a while, including through the hard times. Bloomberg profile here.

I wish I was a big enough man to say that I'll take no pleasure in the ensuing implosion...

I know the feeling. But since when do we believe predictions from Power "Atari is a great investment" Dubs? When has he been right about predicting anything?

There aren't that many operations to manage at Atari anymore, and it's been that way for years. Someone else can babysit their licensing projects, which probably run themselves at this point. Todd can enjoy retirement or the next chapter or whatever.

"Atari" could hire Martial Daviaud, Holger Kipp, AND John Phelan for the cost of one Shallbetter. Those guys appear to have plenty of time on their hands.

The stock was never a good idea. I don't see how Todd's departure would impact it one way or the other. It has been holding steady for a while now. The right time to get out was the day they made their cryptocurrency announcements, almost a year ago. At that time, simply invoking the word "blockchain," even without any follow-through, would get you attention and trades.

I almost wish PDubs was allowed back in. Partly to see if he apologizes, but mostly...

I remember when I said that I would take no pleasure in watching Atari SA fail. That was before I discovered a particularly tasty form of schadenfreude.

Ouch...that guy's nose. Oy!

That plus the fact that it's such an obviously-staged hokey photo meant that I had to post it :D

For reference, I stole it from this user manual.

GLR posted a nice schedule roundup last Halloween. Here's a reminder of where they need to be in order to come close to fulfilling what they said they'd do.

Let me, for the moment, assume that Atari actually intends to make good on this campaign.

If they plan on shipping in Spring 2019, let's be as generous as possible and set that deadline for June 1, 2019.

That means they need to have the product warehouses and ready to ship by May 25.

That means the product has to ship domestically by May 20.

That means it has to be released from customs by May 19.

Which means it has to arrive at the border from
China sometime around May 10, as several days to a week delay is not uncommon.

Which means it has to ship FROM China no later than March 1.

Which means the raw product has to be packaged by April 20.

Which means those suckers need to roll off the assembly line by April 19.

Which means the fabrication has to be arranged by early April.

Which means the design has to be set in stone by mid March.

Which means all weaseling and waffling has to be done by early March.

Which means testing has to be done by late February.

Which means a production-worthy prototype has to be ready by mid-February.

Which means they need a solid design ready by the beginning of February.

...... pardon the long post, but it serves my point. EVEN IF ATARI HAS THE BEST GOALS AND IF THINGS GO WELL, which they don't and they won't, Atari now has essentially three months to go from "Dev board in plywood heaven" to "This is what we're making".

Given their extremely slow progress from a tender to an actual selection of interns hardware, I find the idea of them succeeding with such a short timeline to be... unrealistic.

And as a PACER update, neither Feargal nor "Atari" have produced the documents needed for their lawsuit:

Looks like there's going to be a jury for Feargal's court case plus a fact discovery due in February next year.

Docket last updated: 10 hours ago

ORDER: On November 8, 2018, the Court ordered the parties to file a "letter informing the Court about the status of discovery" no later than January 11, 2019. ECF No. 24. The parties have not done so. Accordingly, they are ORDERED to file a joint status report regarding the status of discovery and any outstanding discovery disputes no later than January 18, 2019. (Signed by Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn on 01/14/2019) (ras)

Their status update is due today, January 18th. All discovery has to be completed by February 8th.

Which of the Ataribawks backers will have the chutzpah to ask the question about Shallbetter on their comment board and force them to delete it?

I'll admit that I did actually think - briefly - about throwing my money away on a joystick that would probably never be delivered just to be able to be the guy who asked the embarrassing questions on their Indiegogo page.

That idea went out the window when I realised that I'd get far more enjoyment out of the four trips to the taqueria for lunch that keeping my $29 would enable me to make.

Who's next? Michael Arzt or Rob Wyatt? My nickel is on Arzt, because of how Fred threw him under the bus in that interview last week.

I made a sloppy 10-year challenge from his Twitter and LinkedIn photos. Apologies to Morrissey and the Smiths.

Todd's Facebook shows he's vacationing in Playa del Carmen. Either PDubs misunderstood a simple Out of Office, or Todd's celebrating his early release.
