I was thinking about a dry cherry pit, because the real Atari cherry shriveled a couple of decades ago so at best a pit remains that pretends it is a real cherry. Side note: The first company to bring Atari arcades to Sweden was Cherry, but due to sudden changes in the legislation about arcade, pinball and gambling machines they had to take measures to not go bankcrupt, involving selling the Atari license to someone else.
+Spriggy
Just back from a few days away with the missus. Nice to be back to the fray! Why, yes, it does: Just to compare with the ASRock's pricier Box 4x4 model again, here are the RX Vega 8 benchmarks: I hear Team Shoebox are jumping on the tacowagon and developing their own take on Fortnite. Paul Slocum
Meanwhile "Atari" is still able to get some press outlets to regurgitate their press releases without bothering to look into anything: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/atari-vcs-retro-console-pre-orders-now-available/1100-6467719/ https://happygamer.com/new-atari-vcs-400-and-atari-vcs-800-consoles-to-be-available-in-march-2020-40250/ It's about time for The Register and other press and Youtubers to start putting the pressure on again. Mikebloke
Wait wasn't it supposed to be next month? Does that mean we are on the final countdown if Asda Walmart is listing it? Could march 2020 be the true release date???? Could we be seeing discounted offers in April????????
Flojomojo
Can somebody wake up Mike Arzt and remind him that a fortnight is fourteen days, but Fortnite is where the money is? It goes without saying that despite its juxtaposition with "Atari" CEO Fred Chesnais on Fox Biz News, Fortnite has nothing to do with "Atari," and there is no Linux version of the game. For someone to run Fortnite on Atari VCS (if/when that platform comes out), they'd have to bring external storage and install Windows first. Whee! Also note that while ATARI VCS has 12,000 preorders, Fortnite has 250 million players!

As long as it is mail order only (yes, it will be on Walmart's e-commerce site but no indication it will be in their stores) at least local dealers don't have the need to do clearance sales shortly after to recoup for losses.
JBerel
I'm sure it will be deeply discounted like all farts in the wind.
MrMaddog
I'm not surprised that Faux Busniess can't tell the difference between Pong & Fortnite cause Mainstream Media thinks that all video games are the same frivious activities made for children...even though it's a billion dollar industry where the average age of gamers are in the 30's. Of course this attitude is going to get the "Ok Boomer" response from people who currently play video games to those who hadn't played anything for decades. And if the latter audience is being targeted by Atari VCS then...... 1

This is mentioned in the RedEye reports, with some rosy projections on sales. I've pasted some marked-up excerpts below. I agree that nobody ever said anything about getting on store shelves in GameStop and Walmart. It seems unlikely to me that GameStop would stock this in stores because those shops are small and the company is hurting financially. There are 4,769 Walmart stores in the United States. It doesn't seem likely to me that Walmart would bother to stock a $200+ item that would not sell more than a handful of units per store. 1
JBerel
Wow, those guys truly have their head up their asses so far, they can taste what the astronauts on the International Space Station had for breakfast. They're gonna "expect units sold patterns to be typical of gaming consoles", and they "believe there is a market for this type of mini PC because the market does not want to buy a gaming PC", and they believe they're going to "mimic the success of Roller Coaster Tycoon" with new products they don't have, while their one successful product license on RCT will end in a couple years. I've never seen such a pathetic and deliberate pile of unjustified assumptions, and I've seen a lot of them. 3
+GoldLeader
People speculate about stuff all the time, but yeah That RedEye Report (Whatever that is) sure has on the rose colored glasses. I wonder if (some of) it means atari are planning on remakes of Asteroids Royale, Fatal Run, and Submarine Commander to appear on the platform? If so, that's 3 more games than I was giving them credit for. But, then again, to my knowledge they've never mentioned it.

They've put out the mobile games listed in the RedEye report, you can find the installation numbers on Google Play. I think the Asteroids and Warlords games are arcade titles, the kind of thing we'd see at Dave and Busters?
mgman
Will someone out there get some more dirt out about the Atari VCS and its development backstage? It's clearly the only way to get Atari SA to release an update.

I'm guessing their next update will go something like: "This is not an update but a brief update regarding the upcoming update: Well friends, the holidays are now upon us and as our team takes much deserved time off to spend with their families and friends, it will allow them to refresh for the long anticipated update everyone has been so anxiously waiting for. We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season and look forward to sharing more exciting news with you after the New Year! Ta Ta for now. P.S. Mikebloke
Did someone say Jaws? There'll be a set time if the VCS Releases when it'll be dirt cheap, like the GX4000, 32X etc where its at its sweet point/knees. Then ten years later when we go "oh yeah, lets go have a look at it now as a retro machine" it'll be full retail whack from eBay reseller for profits.
