New Atari Console that Ataribox?

Recommended Posts

AtGames and 1Up are the licensees I know about for actually making game-related things.

XSolla, UberStrategist, and IndieGogo are the partners I know about for "Atari VCS."

SurfaceInk was mentioned in Kieren's story as a rumored partner but their involvement wasn't proven and "Atari" is secretive (maybe because they don't pay on time)!

They also have their sketchy cryptocurrency and casino licensing, and anything could happen when getting in bed with those people.

My wild ass guess: Indiegogo doesn't like that "Atari" turned off their crowdfund scampaign while simultaneously failing to show progress AND listing their stuff for pre-sale off the IGG site. I would not be surprised if this goes against some seller terms of service.

if I were IGG, I'd want my ENTIRE cut of the scam I helped promote and host, not just the start of it.

Since the Atari VCS religious zealots watch this thread, I'm curious how secretly nervous they are regarding potential lawsuit news, all while maintaining the public facade of quiet determination

The lawsuit is fine because it means they are making it better.

Actually PowerA would be a great guess. It is probably the one thing completed and not paid for. Wasn't the first campaign delay due to them trying to screw over Dreamgear (?) or someone over the controller design?

That was many tacos ago someone help refresh my memory.

Revised guess: perhaps when "Atari" went after Hyperkin for their Retron77 machine and controllers, it blew up in their face. What if the VCS controller were determined not to be a protected trademark/cash cow milkable only by "Atari." 🐮 Besides their catalogue of hopelessly outdated intellectual property, what else do they really have?

There's a hold for discovery while they work it out in court. I could understand the secretive "Atari" not wanting to make a big public deal of it. Personally, I'm rooting for Hyperkin. 😛

Here is a partial list of recent enemies made by "Atari," mostly t-shirt printers. Recall that income from these lawsuits made up much of "Atari's" income last year. Their trademark-troll lawyers are sometimes more lucrative than their license deals, and way more profitable than their nonexistent game developers.

That's the word on the street about the controllers. In any event, unless you're some unfortunate zealot with a reality distortion field, you can't help but conclude that virtually everything Atari has communicated has been extremely misleading, a lie, or deliberate fraud, so another lawsuit is about as surprising as an Irish Atari fan with a drinking problem.

Oh yeah, how could I forget the anonymous PowerA employee with the Atari joystick tattoo? Why didn't "Atari" sue that guy, too? Maybe they just shorted him on payments.

There are "partners" everywhere, since they don't have many in-house resources.

Poor John. I hope he gets at least a partial refund so he can afford a lamp and not have to make all his videos in the dark

They would sue the tattoo artist not the guy who bought it.

Maybe they didn't pay for that storage shed they met in with their hands down their pants?

Looks like there has been some action with the spectacularly greedy/stupid Atari Vs. Target suit, too. This is about the "Foot Pong" in-store projector minigame that has probably not been used in years now.

https://www.pacermonitor.com/public/case/27754525/Atari_Interactive,_Inc_v_Target_Corporation

Last I saw of this one, Target stated that "Atari" has failed to state a claim or prove that they really owned the trademark to Pong. 😂

I'm running out of free PACER downloads, someone else get this one please. 😉

Someone must have gone onto KLOV.com and looked up the plethora of Pong clones :P If anything, Target could always say they were copying the abandonware Paddle Battle and not Pong.

Either way, I'm looking forward to Atari getting a taste of their own lawfare medicine for a change, whoever it is.

Good memory!  But why couldn't it be Dreamgear itself for getting their joystick design stolen?

Wonder if PowerA used the Dreamgear designs? I don't know maybe PowerA has an ax to grind?

Or maybe it's something else???

IMHO (The Mandalorian might be an exception). But I'll try not to derail this delicious thread too far other than that. :D

Yeah, but we're talking the probability of it being 5~14 frames a second on the mythical VCS. Supercross 3D on the Jaguar will run smoother than Fortnite on the VCS. My guess is that Fortnite players are fine with a tiny bit of lag (25~30fps being considered "low"), just like how major, but temporary, slowdown in bullet hell shmups gives you the chance to maybe escape doom. But playing a fast slideshow for pretty much any modern game for the entire time you are playing said game?  I highly doubt that can be considered a selling point for anyone remotely serious about gaming.

I actually was being sarcastic. Of course competitive battle royale gamers don't want low frame rates. The smoother, the better.

A lawsuit against Atari over the VCS... a little early for a Christmas Miracle but I will take it.

More interesting is what it means for the project.  All speculation, of course, but if they don't even know what controller they'll be shipping with the system,  it's obvious they're going to miss the December ship date to backers.  If this is true, I'm not sure how even the most loyal supporter doesn't see the light.

I've been expecting them to miss this deadline for awhile. Honestly I think this project is deader than most want to admit. They clearly came at this for a cash grab with no clue what to do next. Besides clearly hoping for a buy-out. That buy-out though is obviously not happening any time soon.

Fred's game plan from how I see it...

1   Rip off ideas from other people and crowd fund it as if you have something.

2   Take the money and run.

3   Sell the company because it is hot and in-demand and relevant again.

4   Let the new owners figure this mess out.

5   Eat 3 Million dollars worth of tacos and do this again with another dead brand...

i was wondering about that.  i did notice on the Slifker website that he's pretty much removed all the Atari references except for his 'beta' jigsaw program.

edit to add- yes. ;)

I want to look closer at that Atari v Hyperkin suit, it's super douchey. "Atari" is claiming that Hyperkin is benefitting from Atari's old reputation and trade dress (wood grain, rubbery joystick). They are demanding that Hyperkin render unto Atari damages in the amount of three times all Retron77's profits plus legal fees, and to destroy all the offending product.

Huge brass balls on that lame retro brand custodian. I do not like them, not one bit.
