New Atari Console that Ataribox?

Recommended Posts

Didn't Arzt or Wyatt claim to have a bomb-diggety way of navigating without a mouse or keyboard, as if they invented webTV or something? It was vague and squishy but pretty cocky too. It's hard to remember because it's been so long.

I'm willing to bet that pretty much everyone who threw money at one of these has everything in front of them necessary to do exactly that in the form of the computer they're currently using.

@CommanderGrimm was working on 3D-printed versions of exactly that 684 pages ago.  Real life, unfortunately, got in the way - pity, because I'd have loved to have had one of those; I have always thought that the Ataribollocks'(tm) aesthetics were halfway decent.

I hope you finish it! I would love to print one myself if possible.

Oh, that's totally not my project - @CommanderGrimm was heading that up.

Completely agreed that I'd love to print one of my own as well, especially if there's a revision that can handle a Raspi 4... 😁

No one wants to browse the internet on a device connected to a TV, this is why Tablets exist, this is why you check your email on your phone.

I prefer to do these things on my computer with a proper mouse and keyboard, but on a TV? NO WAY! have you any idea how many emails with subject
"Big boobies" I get?, how much shame will I feel if a guest clicks the search bar and I forgot to clear it!

I am very scared for this man and his friends at Atari, I mean with no official partners and no revenue stream months before launch, how.. HOW!! is this game console/PC going to survive? Atari will need to at least outsource the customer service. I cannot see these guys answering phones all day and dealing with warranty repairs. This costs serious money, employees! an accounting department, some sort of Office that is not in a hotel!
I'd be worried if I were you Cheeseguy!

I foresee this launch going down bad like a platter of Tacos at a Weight watchers meeting.

I'm guessing that is for their OS only. So normal PC navigation we have nothing in terms of our OS mode will require a mouse and keyboard.

Unless they are also incorporating that into the classic joystick! Wait a minute we need to delay again to add additional features to the controller. Its going to be great and worth it.

The Atari VCS is receiving more "mainstream" media coverage than the Amico. This is true in Spain, where I live, and based on the interview it also appears to happen in the US.

I guess there are two main factors for this: 1) The Atari brand is still important and 2) They are supposed to launch the machine in only 3 months.

I do however don't think this unexpected media coverage will do anything for the machine, which appears doomed (not even one game has been shown so far?). Especially since the CEO barely manages to explain anything to the interviewers at all and is definitely not creating new customers on that interview.

By the way, the video has been posted by CNBC on Youtube and the comments already have conspiracies!

Wow what an idiot. He just kept hounding the guy because of his profile as if his opinion wasn't valid because he didn't "like" any videos.

..and on that note.  Was told today of a supermarket, right near work, that presses fresh tortillas daily.  A work mate dropped in for me and grabbed 2 stacks and some enchilada sauce I've never seen before.  Will be making enchilada soft chicken tacos with chunky quacamole, pickled red onion and cilantro  ..... just because!  #tacodigression

@MrBeefy to say nothing of the fact that "Atari" gets absolutely nothing from running Fortnite for Windows on their box. Hardware is typically sold with slim profit margins if not at a loss, since they can make up for it with software and services.

The fact that "Atari VCS" has a high price doesn't make Fred/Arzt business visionaries (you might find some of the more starry-eyed supporters saying they're dancing to the beat of a different drum), it just means they don't have any better ideas.

"Atari VCS" cheap version $250

Cheap external hard drive $75

Cheap keyboard/mouse $30

Bluetooth game controller $50
Ill-gotten Windows license $5 (for the flash drive to install it)

All that puts us over $400, which is way more than an Xbone or PS4 or Switch, all to play the free Fortnite game for which "Atari" sees nothing. Great plan!

Keep in mind that it is difficult (but not impossible) to install Windows on an external drive, so you will NEED an NVMe SSD, which will obviously cost more.

Though you can crappy Microsoft or Logitech keyboard and mouse sets for about $10, but regardless... it's a mess.

And if you buy the cheaper VCS, Windows 10 will choke with just 4GB of RAM, so good luck playing games on it, unless you've always wanted a $300 Solitaire machine.

I'd love one too. I'm planning to make my own VCS, but I can't 3D model diddly squat.

Now software, that's a bit of a different story... But you'll have to wait. 😉

Not sure I'll beat Atari to release, but I'll do it better.

Nope, Curt said there's another one coming up. He said it was being filed a couple of weeks ago but we still haven't heard anything. Curious.

I don't want to hound him (after all, it's not like he can publicly tell us anything anyway), but it'd be the best damn Christmas present if we get to see it within the next week!

The ending of Star Wars ROS is all over youtube now, I will not post a link or spoilers but the climactic ending is the way Atari is going to go away in 3 months xD
