FND #1 Posted May 16, 2003 I was wondering if anyone has found a good way to relieve the stress caused by shrinking shrinkwrap, the obvious answer would be to remove it but I would prefer not to do this as it does serve to protect the box from color loss and scuffing. BTW I do have loose copies of all my shrinkwraped games so its not like I can't play the games FND
CPUWIZ #2 Posted May 16, 2003 Well, for one you could remove the shrinkwrap and re-shrinkwrap it.
sku_u #3 Posted May 16, 2003 You can also keep it in a climate controlled environment or make a slit in it with an exactoblade.
+-^CrossBow^- #4 Posted May 16, 2003 CPUwiz's idea is the best one. But then it isn't the original shrink anymore. I actually play what I have shrinked so what I do is to use a razor and cut the shrink open. But only at the flaps where I will be opening up the box. That way I still have access to the box and its contents...but can keep the shrink in place to protect the rest of the box easily. However, this will not prevent the shrinkage from still shrinking. MegaManFan #5 Posted May 16, 2003 If I'm cutting the shrinkwrap of a boxed Atari game to get it out and play it, I don't just cut the top or bottom flap alone. I also cut "breather slits" at any of the seams where the box folds up to help keep it loose. And if a box is already suffering damage, I just remove it entirely. Miqorz #6 Posted May 17, 2003 Wow I must not be as much of a serious collector as I thought because when I get a shrinkwrapped game I wanna play I rip it open like it was christmas morning...
sku_u #7 Posted May 17, 2003 Wow I must not be as much of a serious collector as I thought because when I get a shrinkwrapped game I wanna play I rip it open like it was christmas morning... I do the same thing unless it's something I already have an opened copy of or is extremely rare and valuable unopened.
Atarinuts #8 Posted May 17, 2003 WHAT??!!! HOW DARE YOU OPEN A SEALED GAME!!! I just can't believe... I mean REALLY!.. .. opening a sealed......just to play??? * atarinuts walks off mumbling to himself *
ATARIPITBULL #9 Posted May 18, 2003 If the shrinkwrap is crushing my boxed 2600 game, I will remove the shrink-wrap to stop it, remember that as long as the box is still sealed, then the game is still worth its money, besides some of the games you get off of ebay have been re-shrinkwrapped. The only time I say that the shrink-wrap is worth keeping is if it still has the original price tag from the store it came from and if its not shrinking. King Atari #10 Posted May 19, 2003 remember that as long as the box is still sealed, then the game is still worth its money, My words exactly. You could cut slits in it, though often if the shrinkwrap starts to shrink, it will become tighter, and a hole will break by itself, mostly in the back or front, depending where it's really going in. I'm guessing that slows or stops it.
CPUWIZ #11 Posted May 19, 2003 Do you guys all live in saunas ? My shrinkwrapped games don't tend to do that and I live in CA.
rpmxxipt #12 Posted May 19, 2003 I've got a bunch of shrinked games from the '80s that look like someone stepped on them because of the tension over the years. Shrinking is a bad thing in the hands of the dumb, and I extend that to corporations. Although I don't know how many of them ever imagined anyone would be keeping these in that condition for 15-20 years. STILL, a GOOD quality engineer.. -rpm-
MegaManFan #13 Posted May 19, 2003 Do you guys all live in saunas ? My shrinkwrapped games don't tend to do that and I live in CA. Dude, when I bought that lot of 7800's and boxed games from monzamess, I found that his loose boxes were less crushed and more mint looking than my shrinkwrapped ones in nearly every case. That's why I unloaded most of the ones I had dupes of right here on AtariAge. I don't even think the Midwest is a heat sauna, I think a lot of them were showing that warping when I +got+ them but I just didn't notice.
