ISO TMS9996 datasheet, assembly manual, etc.

Recommended Posts

Looking for information on the TMS 9996 processor as used in early TI XDS emulator systems. Best I can tell it appears to be a version of the TMS9995 with a non-multiplexed, full 16 bit data bus, but I have no solid confirmation of this and I have not really dug into the emulator I have, which is non-functional. Even assuming I'm correct, there could be other differences from the 9995.

I've looked high and low and found nothing other than a few comments from Karl Guttag in an online interview many years ago, that were not definitively confirming. Looks like the chip was never marketed and used strictly internally. So, does anyone have any documentation, or know where I could find it?

Thanks,

jbdigriz

Slight correction, the chip in my emulator is an SE9996, but I think that's just the development version of the TMS9996 part. Further correction welcome.

My "TI Pocket Guide" contains a description of the SBP 9989, but this is something different, right?

The SBP9989 is 64-pin, too, but it's bipolar logic, iirc. Anyway, I won't really know the differences without docs.
