Bill Lange #1 Posted July 8, 2017 Here is an ATARI BASIC utility I wrote to set and retrieve the data, time and day of week from the Hayes Chronograph connected by the ATARI 850 Interface Module. The disk includes DOS, 850 Handler and BASIC program called CHRONO.BAS. CHRONO_850.atr And here is a link to the Hayes Stack Chronograph Owner's Manual. ---Bill 6
Xebec #2 Posted July 8, 2017 It might be fun to make a modern chronograph using a LCD and an Arduino.. that could also provide time to the Atari this way
Kyle22 #3 Posted July 8, 2017 (edited) Yes, and also TeleVideo Systems that run BBS's and other things desperately need a Chronograph replacement. TeleVideo has a beautiful multi-user system. The TS-806 or TS-816 is the server, and 8 or 16 clients connect to it via a DB-15 RS422 cable. It is all run with 4Mhz. Z80's. Most Workstations such as the 800a contain a 6502 CPU to handle the video from the 6545 chip connected to the built in 80 column (sharp clear) green monitor. It is a dream to use WordStar on that system. The Z80 is the main CPU and runs all the cool software. I made a custom OS from CBIS's 'Network-OS" that included the New Z-System (called NZCOM) and made "Network-NZ" (It does time/date stamps on files) which is a full replacement for the SOSXXX.SYS files on the server. I also modified the Server's OS to add the ability to use 4 physical hard drives instead of the software limit of 2 hard drives. My solution eliminates the "File Locking" problem with other patches to that OS. In fact, mine says 'Unlock!' before it returns to the C:> prompt. Or A:> or whatever. Sorry about the off-topic, but I know some people who would LOVE to get a Chronograph! Edit: clarification. Edited July 8, 2017 by Kyle22
gozar #4 Posted July 8, 2017 It could be recreated with a CHIP computer and modifications to tcpser, I would think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bill Lange #5 Posted July 8, 2017 Paul Rickards just updated the firmware in his WiFi232 internet Hayes-compatible modem with an "ATRD" command so that you can read the date and time. See the users guide. It requires the 850 Interface and a WFI connection.
