RodLightning
Someone on Minecraft forum suggests that previous version of ATI Catalyst driver, 9.12 supports the proper version of OpenGL which was dropped for some reason in later release. It's worth a try. Which Catalyst version do you have currently? http://www.oldapps.com/ati.php?old_ati=
TheTIGuy
2.0.2519.38216, thats what it says at least. STATUS: downloading it now.... TheTIGuy
So as you can see, i tried several different videocard drivers, so i think my ancient videocard and Java 8 don't like each other. And nor does Java 7. So im gonna give up playing MC. This saddens me, as that is one of the rather few things i can enjoy myself with. =( ... Well, it seems that MC won't run under ANY version of the driver that bundles catalyst, so i'm gonna try the XP driver that i use that MC used to run on, then find a newer version with a 1/2 decently recent version of openGL. +-^CrossBow^-
I could have sworn that Minecraft can run in an software 3d mode? I know that in its very early days I could play MC on even a netbook with some decent speed. Few things to try, but I would look up how to change the default render method the game is trying to use and see if you can switch to something else? In fact, I thought MC supported software rendering, DirectX, as well as OpenGL? Isn't there a selector to choose within the main menu? So if you can't even get it to load up to the initial menu to begin playing, then that is where you have to research where to edit whatever config file it might rely on and see where to manually change the render method to at least get it back to that point. Now it has been a very long time since I messed with MC but I do recall it having such options way back when?

Serguei2
The best way to help you is to go to Minecraft messageboard and explain your problem. http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums Someone can help you.
TheTIGuy
Well, just confirmed my computer isn't powerful enough to play MC.
Serguei2
Maybe the last version takes more resources for your computer. Try 1.5 or 1.0. It might work but it's very slowly. I have a computer with 2G and I can play Minecraft. Both Old_Alpha 132211 and Old_Alpha 132328 play just fine. Those versions are very basic. I have a 1.6 celron that played up to 1.6.1 on winXP, so I'm afraid I'm toast. OK, i tested the oldest alpha available, but alas, t'was fruitless.
