Osgeld #1 Posted July 30, 2017 This is a little project I have been tinkering with, its a home brew SIO2SD that is packaged inside the 400's case. Along with that I did a 16K to 48K conversion, composite AV mod, and of course cleaned it up since it looked like it had been sitting in a basement since the 80's anyway, just thought I would share

Osgeld #8 Posted July 31, 2017 better close up of screen and buttons
+orpheuswaking #9 Posted July 31, 2017 (edited) The Screen and buttons are really good, there is no way I could make a rectangle cutout that neat. Can you show the SD slot? Edited July 31, 2017 by orpheuswaking
Osgeld #10 Posted July 31, 2017 (edited) its in the last picture in the first post under the keyboard, I can get a closeup if you like and while its not perfect, they started off looking like a mouse chewed though it, a file cleans up a lot of sins also I dunno if its showing up in the pictures, there is a clear lens in the cutout as well since the screen is mounted to the back of the plastic Edited July 31, 2017 by Osgeld

kiwilove #12 Posted July 31, 2017 A beautiful job well done - makes me want to have one. I think there's a market for 400's to be upgraded like this. Even with it's keyboard left untouched (if it works just like new). Amazing job for an amazing machine. Harvey
Osgeld #13 Posted July 31, 2017 (edited) I think there's a market for 400's to be upgraded like this. Well I hope so cause this one will be going up for sale very soon, as that was the entire intent of it, take it in, clean it up, give it some mod's and let her go to a good home ... though to be honest its going to be hard, its a fun machine Edited July 31, 2017 by Osgeld

kiwilove #15 Posted August 1, 2017 It does look ready to be running for the next 30+ years - especially with you giving it a proper clean throughout. I don't think it needs a proper keyboard - because it'll destroy the original design look of it. I think the 400 was always going to be used as a games machine first - and so you wouldn't use many keys - as in Star Raiders, etc. I hope you'll end up selling a lot? of these - because it really shows how a mod should be done like, on this classic computer. Osgeld #16 Posted August 1, 2017 (edited) I was prepared to put a transkey into it, but yea I have absolutely no issues with the membrane keyboard for games and poking lets face it, im not writing my thesis on the thing or even if I start coding its going to be on my PC via emualtion, the keyboard is perfectly fine for what it is and no I dont sell a lot of retro computers, I actually had a hard time letting this one go, but I want my pimped out 65xe back if I am going to get full time into atari (consoles though I flip faster than burgers in a county fair) keep in mind I had my apple IIc for like 10 years before selling it, 2 months on this one is a "if I dont get rid of it now its going to linger" machine Edited August 1, 2017 by Osgeld
