mbd30
Probably Riddle of the Sphinx. A neighbor owned it. I remember that I didn't like it very much. I had this as a kid. I had a neighbor friend who kept wanting to play it, and for me to help him with the other controller and inventory system.

Torr
I had Master Builder as a hand-me-down growing up. Hated it. Nice little song. And the Zellers version of Dragonfire called Dragon Treasure. My friend though, had a Sears Video Arcade (the only one I seen growing up, not rare though I know) AND sooooo many of the Zellers pirate-clone games. They may be rare today, but everyone had a couple Zellers games around here (I live in Canada) back in the day.... and this kid I think had damn near all of em. schuwalker
Waterworld. By that time, I thought it wasn't coming out and then I saw it at Kaybee. Picked it up and actually had a lot of fun with it. Ugh, picture that scenario for me except I didn't pick it up. I try to find solace to the fact that my parents would've tossed the box and paperwork - still doesn't help. I had: Frogger II, Star Wars (Arcade) and two of the Xonox games. Nothing in the 7 or up territory... I did borrow Up n' Down form a neighbor kid which is pretty rare.
Gorfy
Nice avatar. IMG_3070.JPG IMG_3071.JPG I got to meet Al Lewis and shake his hand at his restaurant many years ago, I think in the late '80s or early '90's. I was very elated, and quite drunk at the time Fun times in NYC!
Tempest
I did borrow Up n' Down form a neighbor kid which is pretty rare. Out of curiosity, what did you think of it?
Gorfy
The closest thing to a rare game I had in the 80s was a copy of Stellar Track I picked up at Sears. Still one of my all-time favorites, but only a rarity of 4.

lazzeri
That´s probably the funniest thing on growing up in a place were piracy was - basically- legal and state-sanctioned: USA rarity guides don´t mean that much for us. For example: X-man, a R9 game, was an extremely common cart down here. Probably half the kids had their pirated copy. HERO is another incredible common game. So is Condor Attack, or Halloween (most of the times sold as "Friday the 13th". Don´t ask... ). On the other hand, some early Atari games were REALLY hard to come by. I´ve never seen a Brazilian "Casino" (R1). Same goes to Blackjack (R2), and a lot of those.

Rom Hunter
The wife of a friend of mine still has a Video Gems Steeplechase she bought back in the 80s:http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-steeplechase_11806.htmlShe was (is) extremely fond of horses (must have been the only reason to buy this game back then).Unfortunately, she destroyed the box because she collected horse pictures... TemplarXB
Tooth Protectors for the 2600 which one of my parents' friends got me by sending in the UPC labels. I played that a lot as a kid. Not a game, but Castles & Creatures for the C64. It was a program that helped you write a story. I used it somewhere around the 5th grade and the teachers were blown away having thought that I wrote it by myself going so far as to have me read my story to other classes.
Konqrr
Mostly commons, but I had Steeplechase and Xonox double-ender with Superkicks on it.
BONEMAN
The rarest game I played was Gremlins. My friend had it. The rarest games I owned were Snoopy and the Red Baron and Tax Avoiders.

DoctorSpuds
I remember being really into submarines back when I was a little kid so my parents picked up a copy of Polaris for me for Christmas I played the crap out of that game, I also had Bermuda Triangle, and Quick Step. At least one of those games was fun

DoctorSpuds
Even though I never owned it it turns out my father had a copy of X-Man by Gamex stashed away, he told me he "got rid of it" after we donated our old Atari. I don't believe him though.
MegaManFan
I'll speak for my wife since our original Atari 2600 is hers - it was probably Fast Food. I think she said her mom bought it when Atari games were being clearanced for cheap. It was one of the first games she showed off to me when we got it out of storage and hooked it up. darthkur
The rarest ones I had back in the 80's were Steeplechase, Flag Capture and Alien, all R4's. I remember buying Starship and Miniature Golf, both R3's, by asking other people playing games at the local bowling alley if they had them and wanted to part with them. I thought it was such an awesome thing to be able to get them since they were unavailable at the stores at the time.

Stage_1_Boss
The most rare games I'd played in the 80's off the top of my head would probably either be Ghost Manor / Spike's Peak double ender on 2600, H.E.R.O. on, I think, 5200 or Sqoon on NES.
