Broken Classic edition?

Recommended Posts

Never got a classic edition because it was always out of stock. And ebay is now over 200-300 dollars. So found this. Its genuine and not knockoff.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-NES-Classic-Edition-Mini-FOR-PARTS-NOT-WORKING-/232441734619?hash=item361e9b65db:g:GF8AAOSwX-VZi5iq

But its broken. Even then 60 is too high, But still better than 300. So If I bought this what are the chances of fixing it? Or what would Nintendo charge? Or would they probably not even touch it? Or probably not worth it as no way of knowing what happened when he dropped it?

I didn't buy. I was just wondering. Probably not worth it. But if its a simple fix like a loose wire then maybe. Or maybe wait 25 days and if nobody buys ask him to lower it to 30 bucks.

Looks like it fell out of a moving car.

If everything inside was immaculate I'd consider. But nah, it's all bent up. The real killer is that he says the previous owner dropped it, so he wasn't the one who broke it. He likely bought it with the same idea hoping it would be an easy fix and is now trying to cut his losses after he lost that bet.

The wifebitch probably threw it across the room or something.

He got off lucky considering he lied about being Treat Williams all these years.

If it's loose wires the current second owner is lazy, an idiot, or both.

I don't recall, but what was/is the warranty on these? Is it the standard year from Nintendo? I'd think if you called them and gave them a serial # even without a receipt they'd know it's under 12mo old and may do something with it. Depending on the sob story maybe free, or for a fee that's far better than the asinine scalper price on it. That would be something to consider. Perhaps say your kid had a temper tantrum playing a harder game on there and jerked it as hard as possible and it went flying, hit the wall then a hardwood floor and destroyed the body and it won't power on. I'm sure you're creative enough.

Call them, act like yours broke, and say that you are out for a week on a work trip, don't have the receipt or serial # with you but find out what they could do. If they'll fix it free or for 1/2 the price or less of a new scalper box with none of the packing -- go for it. The week vacation time would be enough to get that dude to ship it and arrive, then you follow the NOA RMA process and you're set.

This would probably work ... but it seems like a hassle and a half when the end result will be just an NES Classic. Easier than camping outside of an electronics store like a chump, I guess.

I've had good luck with situations where depending on your problem and how it all went down vs being able to repair something or not -- they'll ignore the warranty and just do it after it's out, or do it at a reduced rate which is why I brought it up.

It may be a hassle entirely, but isn't being wallet raped by some scalper a hassle too? Pay $60+ nothing or a little for a new 1yr stretch on a NES CE, or pay $200-300 for one from some jack wagon? I'd rather do the hoops if I wanted it bad enough.

He said

"I've tested it using an original nes classic mini power adapter and it wouldn't power up."

And asked to double check no red light or just no image on tv. He said both no red light and no image on tv.

So looks like its totally dead. Not worth it. Nintendo might even say we can't fix it.

They might but with a warranty they'd have to replace it then with a refurb which would be warrantied a year and good to go. Again it's hoops, but hoops to save a lot if you really want it.

Why don't you try calling Nintendo for us and see what they say?

Wait... what?

I have a brand new NES Power Set and Action set, brand new in the box... and two of these NES systems just laying around. Since when did they end up costing this much? Those are insane prices?

Well... now that I think about it. I paid $175 back in 1986 for the action set... so I guess the prices aren't too crazy. $175 in 1980s money is probably like $400 bucks in today's money.

Perhaps because I already have one and not in the position of considering buying a broken one to avoid scalpers? :)

800-255-3700 is their phone

Perhaps he'd rather whine about the price scalping losers are asking but then buck a valid way to get one because it's just too much work. I'm not going to call Nintendo for him so he can pay a better price on that thing. It's like you write the problem up, then point out an option, and when ways are given that could make it work out decided by a simple phone call suddenly that's just asking too much.

Just pay the $300 for one or man up and make a call and get it fixed for a smaller fraction of the scalper rate. You either want it or not.

Price has been lowered to 54.99. So I will ride it out 20 days and it might go even lower. If not make him an offer.

You better hurry up and buy it before I do. I'm going to fix it by giving it a gasoline bath and dry it out in the microwave.

But the motherboard looks good shape and not cracked. Maybe its just loose wires.

Look at the photos closely, there's one with the ribbon that goes to the power/reset button disconnected and the next photo it's connected. This guy tried something and it's not working. While we don't see any cracks, most of the board is hidden by the shielding which in itself is noticeably twisted. When a piece of electronics takes a beating like that internally I give up hopes of ever seeing it run.

YOU. DON'T. EVEN. KNOW. IF. THIS. WORKS.

The guy is asking people for advice, before you start giving it like it's one of two choices, please check to see if it's even an option. You're the one that came up with it, not us, so validate what you say if you're so sure of it.

For something they won't even make an offer on for another 20 days. It's pretty clear they're not that serious about buying it. Good news for me though.

Fine let us know when it arrives. But skip the gasoline unless you want to burn your whole house.
