Cassidy Nolen #1 Posted May 20, 2003 I am as big of a box collector as I am cart collector, so this one is sad... I met a man at my yard sale about a year ago who said he had Atari for trade. I assumed 2600, and was right. The wierd part is, he waited almost a year before he called. So.... Last night he came over and brought his trade stuff. I was not "blown away" by any one thing (although he had a cool "old school" game pirate tool) he did have about 30 boxed games. All he wanted in trade was like common stuff that he did not have. Of course, I said yes. When I opened the big outer box, half of the game boxes looked like they had gotten wet. They stank something awful. Turns out his cat peed on the boxes. Some of them just stink, others are ruined. Today is the first time in 20 years I actually threw away Atari boxes. The carts inside were fine, but the boxes were trashed. No rare games, but its a shame that one incontenent pet ruined things that were 20+ years old. The shame. On the good side, I have more Coleco Adam stuff than I could ever want. This guy retrofitted a mini disk drive into the original 5 1/4, and had original schematics from Coleco. Wild. total take: Coleco Adam, complete with 5 games, tons of books, etc 2 2600's with all hookups 35 games, 30 boxed, 12 boxes I can actually say I will keep 20 of the saddest looking boxes, Coleco/Atari adaptor, roller controller, spare sticks 2532 ZIF socketed cart with like 35 pirated games Cassidy BTW, traded about 50 worth of games for it. z28in82 #6 Posted May 20, 2003 I'm sorry to hear about the umm semi-loss, I just wonder if the cat piss was recent or if he was giving it time to dry out which would explain the year wait
Cassidy Nolen #7 Posted May 20, 2003 The wetness actually curled the ink off of the boxes. I guess that is some nasty stuff. I would guess its been several weeks since the incident, but they have been together, molding. Nasty stuff. Cassidy BTW, my dog is only allowed around the basement when we are there. Hopefully, that will eliminate most of the fear of contamination. That of course, and her tendency not to pee on things.
Greg Zumwalt #8 Posted May 20, 2003 Worse I've had a dog do is to turn my atart controller into a chew toy. As I'm deathly allergic to cats, none have ever gotten close enough to my Atari things to be of concern... but I do feel the pain. Pitty. Slightly off topic... I lost an entire computer when a mouse, that is, rodent, pissed on it. Blew out the motherboard and the mouse as well!

BeerGnome #11 Posted May 20, 2003 cat piss.. very acidiic, and full of amonia. its also extremly concentrated. remember, cats are origianly desert animals and make very efficiant use of thier piss. thats just to explain the reason why the cats piss tore everything up as for the actual pissing incident.. cats are like tigers.. and only live in packs when resources are plentiful. you.. are the dominant cat in the pack, so thier natural tendency is to bury the waste as to not offend you by thier scent.. notice ina cat population, the only one that does not bury thier waste is the dominent one. simple way around this? keep the litter box clean so they don't look for other places to hide thier waste. of course sometimes cats, like children will act out just to get your attention. Dogs do it too so lets not get on a cat vs. dog debate based on this subject.. thats for off topic

JankenTheGreat #15 Posted May 20, 2003 If I was the owner of that cat there would be "Strange Chunks" in the spaghetti that night... Reminds me of when my dog discovered Combat... I know it isnt a rare game but I only had 1 (Believe it or not.) and Me and this friend would play it all the time. Its a good game, Combat is... ...of course now I have about 17... ATARIPITBULL #16 Posted May 20, 2003 I keep my entire atari 2600 collection in my basement, in an area just for them and one day while I was back there looking over some new games I just received, my pitbull came over and started smelling the boxes, then when he looked up at me and saw the look on my face, he hauled ass out of there and has never gone back in, even when i'm back there.
