Is there some kind of converter box that will convert an old RF analog signal to HDMI inputs? There must be some doing that here as I doubt everyone has access to old CRTs (or maybe they do?) Only worked on my old bluray. Get a VCR instead. Hook it up to the tv and then the nes to that. Not sure about 2600 but my 4k samsing tv has a shared component/rca jack. And 2600 looks great in 4k. The problem isn't' analog RF, almost all tvs can tune analog (even with a digital tuner) - but you may need to change a menu option. The real problem is most modern tvs won't do 240p. It's either use a crt or video moded console with an upscaler to use on a modern tv. Search how the framemeister works. spacecadet Posted August 19, 2017 Share Posted August 19, 2017 I don't know too many modern TV's that don't have RCA inputs, and the best/cheapest way to "upscale" to composite is a VCR. $10-$20 on Ebay, a bit more if you want a better one. You're basically just paying for the RF demodulator. Better VCR's have better ones, because that was one way they achieved the better picture quality they advertised. No need to upscale to HDMI; you won't get any better quality given an RF source. Something, somewhere is going to have to do a conversion from RF to a format your TV understands. Whether it's the TV or a separate device, you have no way of even knowing in advance if one or the other will do a better job. A VCR's just demodulating the RF signal and then giving it to the TV to convert. That's as good a chance as any of giving you the best quality you're going to get. The 7800 looks fine with a cheap mod board, but I used the same mod on my 2600 and it doesn't look good at all. I have an unmodded 2600 Jr. and the RF on it works perfect with all my TVs, except my Vizio Smart TV. It has issues with a few 2600 games on modded and unmodded systems. I tried using a VCR as a go between with the smart TV and it still has issues with the same few games. A member here is helping me out by sending me a different mod to try in my 2600, so hopefully it will improve the picture quality. There are tons of threads on here about the different mods and how to do them. There are also people who will do them for a fee and of course google and youtube have plenty of information. As far as TVs go, most old school games do have CRTs. Not all, but most. I find that new TVs generally work just fine, with the exception of my Stupid Smart TV. My 2600 Jr came with the RF cable (as I'm sure they all did when they were new), but I see what you're saying. Most people are probably going to have the cable, in which case, the adapter he linked to won't be the one they want. My Jr works great and it's RF. I use one of those adapters instead of an RF switch box and the picture is great. If you are still using a switch box, toss it and get one of the adapters. The above even works on my nes and gives better picture than my original nes automatic switch box. Was also considering one of these. Crystal clear. 2600 looks great. Even works on NES Nintendo. Top loader has faint lines (jail bar) up and down. But other wise crystal clear. Will probably do genesis and others also.
