Supergun #4 Posted December 4, 2017 Uh. Wait a second here... That guy did it with a Sega Genesis controller. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, myself included, but that's not the same thing. The guy deserves credit, no doubt, but again, it's not the same. Not legit without a joystick and an actual Atari 2600. He was using a 7800. Not so big a deal with the 7800 but the controller is a definite no. Skippy B. Coyote #6 Posted December 4, 2017 (edited) Seems legit to me. It's being played on real hardware and there's never been any stipulation in the rules of Twin Galaxies, HighScore.com, or any other record keeping organization about having to use an original first party controller for high score achievements. Heck, a fair number of my record high scores were achieved with a Sega Genesis controller or a custom joystick made with arcade parts. I wouldn't use an unmodified CX-40 for anything unless I just wanted to abuse my wrists, though Best's gold PCB and silicone shaft cover upgraded CX-40's are quite nice. Supergun #7 Posted December 4, 2017 Wether or not it's legit or official is not really what I was focussing on; although it could absolutely be debated. Rather, I specifically said, that it's not the same. Todd Rogers (or whomever really) achieving a record back in the 1980's on an original 2600 with an original Dragster cartridge using an original controller and playing on a crt through a twin lead antenna switch box is far more impressive and gains much more respect. Again, it's different. It's not the same. It has far less character.

DarQ Massacres #10 Posted December 4, 2017 Well with todays advancements in joystick tech these new guys are cheating. some of them were using original controllers, and even so it takes the same amount of skill and technique to do it
