emkay #1 Posted May 21, 2003 Now that I saved a 1040 STF and a Mega ST1 with SH204 from going to the Garbage-Can , I have some Questions. Is it the norm, that the connected 204 is not found? Do I need special drivers? All that I see is a fast boot without a disc inserted into the Floppy-Drive. Is it possible to use a PC-Mouse (COM) or to use a PC Keyboard on the ST (with an adapter) because both from the Mega ST are lost ...
Paolo #2 Posted May 21, 2003 Is it possible to use a PC-Mouse (COM) or to use a PC Keyboard on the ST (with an adapter) because both from the Mega ST are lost ... It looks you need something like Mario Becroft's adapters http://gem.win.co.nz/mb/atarihw/qwertyx.html Cool, isn't it? If you only need to use the mouse, just download from almost anywhere a program to use a COM mouse in your COM port (can't remember the name, MOUSE2?, VMOUSE?...) emkay #3 Posted May 21, 2003 The Interface is nice, but expensive too. I'lll take a look at EBAY for a defective Mega ST with Keyboard and Mouse. My most concerns are about the Hard-Disk. Is it defective to?
krupkaj #4 Posted May 22, 2003 The Interface is nice, but expensive too. I'lll take a look at EBAY for a defective Mega ST with Keyboard and Mouse. Eiffel adapter looks promising http://perso.wanadoo.fr/laurent.favard/eiffel_e.html My most concerns are about the Hard-Disk. Is it defective to? What it do when you boot it? Is possible that you need to format the disk and install harddisk driver. Try cbhd, it should work with your disk. You can download it from http://www.funet.fi/pub/atari/diskutil/
emkay #5 Posted May 22, 2003 At first: Thanks for helping. To both of you. I got the Program HDCHECK. It shows me two partitions on the drive with one partition bootable. After using cbhd , the Boot stops with a lot of Bombs. Now some new questions Why do I need a Driver if the TOS already knows the drive? Is the Driver only for cbhd? Is there an original tool from ATARI to make the SH (Megafile?) bootable? Maybe a Virus could have killed the Bootdata?
Inky #6 Posted May 22, 2003 What about the serial mouse driver? I'd like to get a hold of that, as I can get a serial mouse easier than an ST mouse at this point.
krupkaj #7 Posted May 22, 2003 Original Atari driver is named AHDI, but it is pretty outdated. I am remembering that I have seen some verion on ftp, but I do not know exactly where. I am using commercial HDDriver, but I have tried cbhd and it works pretty well for me. Start the computer with ALT pressed and then try to start driver manually from floppy. after this it should be possible to read disk C . If not maybe the data structures on disk are damaged and you need to repartition the disk.
emkay #8 Posted May 23, 2003 With the AHDI Driver installed the HD now works fine without any partitioning. Is there an incompatibility between the drivers? The cbhdconf now works fine with ahdi installed... this looks very curious to me.

What I know only ICD driver has different format of partition, but I am not sure as I never used it.
