Cassette deck cable DIY - question on the remote jack

I would like to build the cassette deck cable to hook the Ti99/4A to the cassette tape recorder. I have a link to the schematic here : http://mainbyte.com/ti99/hardware/cables/cassette.html

so MIC and Speaker will need a 3,5mm MONO audio jack but what about the Remote port ? Which kind of jack do I need for this input? This is smaller than the 3,5mm input.

Yes, the cassette control plug is smaller than an 1/8" one.

I would suggest not soldering the leads until you have tested the polarity to make sure it shuts the motor off properly by the computer.

One more thing, I have one of the newer GE models that has a stereo jack for the earphone and the computer doesn't like it much. If you're using an older recorder you should be ok.

With stereo jacks always best to use a stereo to mono adapter or splitter and use one side

Hi Guys,

The cassette recorder is old yes, dated around beginning of the 80's so it should be fine and ouputs mono only. I will build this cable and test it then to check it is properly working ;-) .

Hi Guys,

Just for you to know, I did built the cable and it is working properly except that the TI99 cannot manage to control the datassette motor so I need to manually record and stop when required :-)

Anyway I friend has picked up a couple of days ago a TI99/4A at a local garage sale with the original datassette cable and REM adaptors so he gave them to me :-D .

Theoretically possible; Use something like VLC that can blast the headphone jack's volume outside the "Safe for headphones" volume levels, otherwise the TI wont successfully read. Your typical media player observes this safety limit, but in this case, you want it to blow the roof off.

the ti994a tape recorder has components that are connected to the ti994a.

CRU bit 22, 23, 24, 25 and 27 which must inform the TI on the link between the two.

it would be necessary to recreate a cord with these bits etc ... etc

Keep in mind that there is an open ground condition on the microphone lead.

It can be "ghetto" resolved by bridging the grounds between the speaker and microphone jacks. If you don't sort out that open ground condition, there will be a terrible hum when attempting to get data from your external source (such as your smartphone), and the read will fail.

I went through an ordinary pair of speakers (hanging around in the garage), put the volume of the smartphone at bottom two notches. set the speaker volume to level 7 'envirion', eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet altavista baby !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
