Zelda Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures for the Single Player

Recommended Posts

I passed on these when they came out because they were all about the "you and three friends can play at once!" and I didn't have three friends, much less 3 that were in to LoZ. But are they enjoyable as a single player experience? They are the only games in the series I am missing and would love to play them, but if they are dependent upon having more than one player, I'm going to have to have more kids...

You can play them single player.. but it's a pretty unsatisfying experience as interaction (whether it's cooperation or rivalry in racing/getting coins, etc.) is the obvious "focus".. you'll see. Still worth a shot though if you get it cheap. Why not?

The 4 Swords for Gamecube was especially frustrating for me because it looked so great, it made you wish it was a legit new top-view Zelda game.

It's like a little bit less inspired version of Link to the Past in style because you have to jockey the other links around to do the stuff in spots of each area of that game (like park 2 on a block to drop a gate type stuff.)

Unlike Four Swords Adventure, you can only play the original Four Swords solo if you downloaded the free DSi/3DS port during their limited windows of availability. The original version of the game on the Game Boy Advance is a multiplayer only experience.

Wow, so the original four swords is going to require me to not only have friends who play Zelda, but they are also going to need copies of the game and Gameboys? Boo.

I don't recall that.. but I did download the free one at the time, so maybe that clouded my memory. Was the original 4 Swords the one that was a sub-game to GBA LttP?

Yes. That was the first, then Gamecube which can easily be done alone, and then the GBA remix/rerelease for 3DS that can play by itself adopting changes of the GC release to be functional. My post wasn't even thinking of the original useless addon without partners.

You don't need four players, you can play with two or three from what I can remember.

But yeah, the original GBA game won't let you play by yourself, and I can't imagine it being much fun that way anyway. Most of the fun in that game is from the competition.

What about Tri Force Heroes?
