Votes have started to come in. I decided to create a LibreOffice Database, though it initially complained about JRE (Java Runtime Environment) not being installed which was puzzling as I use jEdit. Had to install the JDK (Java Development Kit) for some reason.

Entrants table:

Sectors table:

Likewise there's a Voters table and a Votes table:

which when queried against:

SELECT SUM( 5 - "Votes"."Place" ) AS "points", "Votes"."Entrant", "Votes"."Sector", "Sectors"."Name"
FROM "Votes", "Sectors"
WHERE "Votes"."Entrant" = "Sectors"."Entrant" AND "Votes"."Sector" = "Sectors"."Sector"
GROUP BY "Votes"."Entrant", "Votes"."Sector", "Sectors"."Name"
ORDER BY "points" DESC

produces the results:

The polls are closed. Thank you to all entrants and to all who voted.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will receive a trophy, courtesy of Tarzilla.

Everyone with a sector in the game will received a boxed copy of the finished game. Let me know if you'd like to pick it up at PRGE, if not it'll most likely be shipped to you sometime in November.

The results*, the first 16 go into the game (so anything with 2+ points).

* 0 points is due to an honorary vote cast for sector D.S.

Wow, that was unexpected. Thank you so much!!!!

This game is just stunning. Is this the first VCS game to feature voice samples during gameplay? I had always assumed that the screen needed to be frozen to produce voice samples as it is in Quadrun and Berzerk VE.

I just noticed that in sector Delta 11, the top left station in the quad-station formation (which, due to wrap-around, is actualy the one on the bottom right corner in the radar view), isn't perfectly centered vertically with the station on the right:

It's not very noticeable (because the station are costantly scrolling and you're pretty busy in trying to not get killed when all 4 of them are there!), but in case you want to fix it (and if it's ok for the other participants in the contest), the vertical position of the last station needs to be increased by 1 (241 instead of 240)

128 128 * player position
v 0 1
h 121 0
h 242 0
h 0 120
v 240 121
h 0 240
v 120 241
v 240 241 * (was 240 240) <----------

Sorry for not realizing this before.

Your welcome!

Thank you! First finished game, some early builds of Frantic also features speech samples during gameplay. The reason it hasn't been seen before is it requires AUDV0 to be updated every single scanline, which is difficult to do while drawing a complex game screen without a coprocessor. Pitfall 2's music uses the exact same technique of updating AUDV0 every scanline, and is possible because of its DPC coprocessor.

Stella's Stocking menu music does the same thing, it does waveform addition and updates both AUDV0 and AUDV1 to generate 4 voice music. It does it without a coprocessor while drawing a simple display. It does utilize a custom bankswitch scheme which lets the menu kernel switch between 2 banks during TIA updates.

No problem. I've updated the level data so it'll be in RC3:

 #define DELTA11 43
  // draconian_20170929_alex_79.bin   ∆ 3
  {
     128,  128, // Star Fighter X, Y location
       8,       // Station Count
                //    STATION ORIENTATION
                //  8  7  6  5    4  3  2  1
    0xd1, // VS VS HS VS HS HS HS VS
    {
         0,    1, // VS Station 1 X, Y location
       121,    0, // HS Station 2 X, Y location
       242,    0, // HS Station 3 X, Y location
         0,  120, // HS Station 4 X, Y location
       240,  121, // VS Station 5 X, Y location
         0,  240, // HS Station 6 X, Y location
       120,  241, // VS Station 7 X, Y location
       240,  241  // VS Station 8 X, Y location
    }
  },
