bradhig1
Is there any diffference between the 2800 and the Sears Video Arcade II?
TPR
I've got a CIB one of those. I love the box. Same! And I'm a sucker for anything Japanese!
CPUWIZ
Is there any diffference between the 2800 and the Sears Video Arcade II? A motherboard revision at best. Even the power supply is the same, it is unlike any other 2600 supplies.
Rom Hunter
Nice! Not fond of the way you handle the material, though. Thanks for sharing!
darthkur
I have the Sears version. A very interesting design.
+save2600
Be nice to know what the Japanese characters read on the box. I imagine something like: More game, more fun! Atari 2800 compatible with Atari 2600 game. There are no 2800 game available, so stop looking! Atari 2600 games included for your supreme enjoyment.
+frankodragon
I did some translating using Google translate and the top four Kanji's really just say ATARI Video Computer System.
TPR
Not fond of the way you handle the material, though. Oh, please. I've been handling video game systems for 41 years (22 of them as part of my professional career) and the way I handled it was just FINE. I personally feel that video games are meant to be PLAYED WITH not put on a shelf and started at as though it's some sort of un-touchable god-like creature. Here's a picture of the system after all the abusive manhandling! lol As you can see, it's perfectly fine! Next time, just for you, I'll find some super rare mint-in-box Atari item and rip it open on video!

I agree, but I still think there's something in between that and the way you handle the material. Never mind. Cool system! Looking forward to your next find!

Osgeld
I often sit behind my couch behind the TV facing away from mine, increases the difficulty of the game
TPR
I often sit behind my couch behind the TV facing away from mine, increases the difficulty of the game So do I! After all this is the proper video game playing position, right?
Video
Like how they depict the game full screen on what appears to be a commodore monitor. Also amazing how much fun they are having playing the game while it appears to be in attract mode.
Shawn
Ha! No worries! I'll be sure to wear the white gloves on the next video! Don't listen to him. He doesn't even collect video games. He only sits in envy with the binary copies and jpeg images of the stuff we actually own.

Polybius
Woah! That's a seriously awesome score! That's one of the rarest (Official) variants of the 2600!, except maybe the "Polyvox" Brazil versions, and maybe even more so.
totallyterrificpants
Too late for Atari to market that system. It's like releasing the Sega Genesis in a certain region the week the Nintendo 64 came out. Too late but cool variant. Exciting seeing anything Atari in Japan. A retro game store in Tokyo had a boxed Lynx but think it was an American import.
empsolo
Did Atari inc really expect this to sell for 24,800 Yen in 1983?
bradhig1
Did Atari inc really expect this to sell for 24,800 Yen in 1983? They didn't expect the Famicom to come out a week later and kill it.

TPR
They didn't expect the Famicom to come out a week later and kill it. How did they not have any idea that the Famicom was going to be released?
zylon
So do I! After all this is the proper video game playing position, right? IMG_3878a.jpg The girl must be playing wrong as it looks like she's about to get a spanking.
+frankodragon
The picture almost looks like there are familiar actors from the old school Sesame Street. The woman who looks like she's about the spank looks like Sonia Manzano, and Will Lee (aka Mr. Hooper) on the right. Ironically, Lee actually was in an Atari commercial before his death in 1982.
