New Atari game journals

Have you seen these yet? Coming in 2018. Basically blank diaries with a few extras and made to look like the original game cartridges. Asteroids, Adventure and Missile Command. Seems like a kind of desperate attempt at retro atari collector profiteering as they want us to pay $13 for mostly blank pages.

That's pretty cute, and creative, too. The labels look like perfect replicas (despite the end label going on the spine, because it's a book), and the proportions look spot on.

 

I would be into those, except it would be hard to change my habits. I favor 5 x 8.25" Moleskines, unruled, with an elastic closure (which cost MORE, and have BLANK PAGES too!). I've been using them for years, I like the paper they use, they lay flat, and they have a little pocket for stashing business cards. I'd buy an Atari-branded Moleskine, even if it wasn't shaped like a VCS cartridge.

 

Sorry to anyone I've mocked for fussy preferences about stuff like CRTs, original vintage hardware, or other aesthetic choices lately.

You know, I rarely use any type of notebook, but I sometimes get these types of things because I like the look. I probably have enough notebooks/journals/diaries to last a lifetime. What kind of sucks about this Asteroids one is that I feel kind of bad using it. I have this weird mental thing where I feel like I should put something "worthy" in there. Really stupid, especially for a $10 book.

I have volumes of stuff like this. Each book lasts me about a year and a half. The cable scrambling added for my privacy.

 

 

What disappoints me is how non-visual I am ... all words, no pictures. If I were more interesting, it would look more like a grail diary.

So it looks like Missile Command is graph paper, Adventure has lines, and Asteroids has dots?
