bradhig1 #1 Posted September 30, 2017 https://www.amazon.com/Retro-Bit-RDP-Portable-Handheld-super-nintendo/dp/B009SE735Y Anyone have one of these? It plays NES and SNES carts. Are there any other handhelds that play NES carts?
godslabrat #2 Posted September 30, 2017 Try the FC Mobile II. Compatibility is above average, but by no means perfect. Screen is smallish.
Reaperman #3 Posted September 30, 2017 (edited) I like my FC Mobile II. That said, I've had better luck with the handheld famicoms that are still floating around. They're very chinese and tend to be sold under different brands with minor cosmetic differences. They often have the usual crop of built-in games, and the famicom carts are so much easier to manage. I like the FC Mobile II more in theory, but it freezes up as those giant carts move around. The first Hyperkin FC Mobile isn't nearly as good as the second one. I have one of those somewhere around here too...but I don't care if I ever find it again. Edited September 30, 2017 by Reaperman
Tanooki #4 Posted September 30, 2017 Also acceptable would be the FC Mobile 88 which is a slightly tweaked (for the better if you can tell) with 88 titles installed (filler) into the hardware. I've got one yet probably going to let it go next month as I never use it.

They're sold under a bunch of names, and are my favorite of the handheld nintendo clones. No NES cart support...but that's kind of why it like it. Tanooki #6 Posted October 1, 2017 You and I have a common thought about it then. I actually stumbled upon it very early this year as some dude was parting off his collection supposedly and I snapped it up with a super games 500in1 cart included for like $40. Money VERY well spent as it's beyond what I could consider solid for a clone. I don't see a reason to write some dumb write up on it as there's enough. It's simple enough to say that stock US and EU region mappers are all functional, and most but not all Japanese are too (I had a couple Namco ones it hated and others are fine and no go on the VRC6 with Castlevania either.) The screen while not GBA SP brighter nice it's better than the ATgames handheld screen for the Genesis easily. Audio is loud, clear, solid from the speakers and game wise I'd call it 98% there. Controls are comfortable too and no misfires or missed hits on games either. I like that it's a Famicom because I have around a dozen games, but mainly just because I leave the modern multi (Super Games 500in1) in there which has a wide array of overkill expensive NES titles and just fun stuff too in there around 2/3 of it isn't repeated garbage but good stuff. The 88 games in there are hot garbage much like the atgames filler Sega titles around the licensed goods but I guess they did that so they could legally market it wherever. bradhig1 #7 Posted October 1, 2017 I think I will get the retro bit one cause it does SNES and NES.
+KeeperofLindblum #8 Posted October 1, 2017 I bought one of these and only had it briefly... It was okay, but it wasn't amazing by any mark. I found the sound wasn't very good, and the cart slot is slightly loose. If you push the game any (which isn't hard based on its location), it can cause it to glitch and essentially disconnect. It's pretty cool using one of these, but it's not amazing by any mark. The SNES only Hyperkin Supaboy is quite a bit better but only does SNES of course. https://www.hyperkin.com/retro/supaboy/supaboy-s-portable-pocket-console-for-snes-super-famicom-hyperkin.html (Buy elsewhere but just linking so you can see)
Video #9 Posted October 1, 2017 I like supaboy and it has the bonus of using SNES accessories and hooking to a TV if you want to. There's a new mk2 version I've thought about picking up.
Tanooki #10 Posted October 1, 2017 I got rid of the 2nd version of supaboy. I don't know if they fixed the 3rd go around but the 2nd was widely flawed with special chip games to the point some of them did work and some didn't which is fairly sketchy. Mine you could run SA1 games if you held reset with a normal cart, then swapped and let go of reset which bypassed the lockout. FX games ran but reset after 5min like a demo kiosk and FX2 DOOM was ok but Yoshi was broken outright. SDD1 didn't work at all. Others who had it, some couldn't get the swap to work, some said SDD1 did work on theirs, and the FX was a mixed response too. Buying the v1 or v2 of the Supaboy if you plan to run stuff other than DSP games (basically it's Super Everdrive +DSP support equal) is a bad idea. Also internally it was designed with a control flaw on the d-pad so you could press all directions at once, no stopper, which would really foul up how games moved if they heavily relied on 360 motions. I had to mod mine with an electrical twist cap I sanded down to create a hump in there to stop that. FC Mobile88 may not be 16bit but it lacks those levels of broken handling and inconsistency. Its primary flaw lie in random Japanese only mapper support as it's spotty with a few special 3rd party chips, and second to that the audio can be a hair off with some sampling/effects. Mine doesn't have a loose cart slot but it's chinese junk so I really doubt all things would be QA'd equally as if Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc would do in the day. bradhig1 #11 Posted October 9, 2017 The cartridges wobble in the slot. Some games won't boot and I think they may be dirty. Just get retro gen adapter for genesis games. It works fine.
