Yes, the silver label was on-top of the white label. I pulled the silver label off to see the white label. I am under the assumption that the silver label is a refurbished label and that at one time this unit was repaired.

Hello again, as you may have noticed I haven't been here in a while. I am unfortunately getting out of the gaming scene for at least a while to pursue other interests. It probably won't be permanent, but when and if I will be back remains to be seen. I wont be getting out of gaming completely, as in, I'm not selling off my collection but I will be selling off my extras and probably my boxed equipment, to get back some of the space the stuff takes up. If someone wants to pick up where I left off feel free to take over the list, if not I may eventually be back again to resume updates but that remains to be seen. I would like to thank everyone who posted and helped me with this little project I started back in 2005.

 

Keep up the hunt for those Heavies, they are a piece of gaming history!

A friend knows I like this stuff and picked up a Sears 6 switch model 99743 which is complete in box and looks honestly like it was never used, $20 bucks. I was all excited since the way he described it (and the price) it sounded like a heavy. Just got it and looks like its not since the plastic molding is NOT curved. The picture on the box and manual are the right curve tho, lol. There is no channel select switch. There is a small piece of paper that says the unit has been modified to operate on channel 4 and when I read owners manual read channel four wherever there is three mentioned. Opened it up, manufacture date 4th week of 1978 and def the heavy RF shielding, serial 79406V. Sticker on bottom also says it was manufactured in Sunnyvale, CA.

Maybe. You already know it has been modified for the channel, though why swap the bottom out is beyond me. Could be a transitional model where they just started using the new bottom.

 

I've run into several "light sixers" that have the heavy shielding (again, probably transitional stuff). Honestly, that original bottom add a lot to the weight.

I challenge anyone to show a significant difference in the shielding of a "Light Sixer" vs. a "Heavy Sixer" -- there isn't any! I don't know how this kind of misinformation gets started. Coyo5050, apart from the retuning to channel 4, you have a normal heavy sixer. Cybercylon, you're confused. I'll bet ALL of the light sixers you've ever looked inside, had the same kind of shielding as the heavy sixers.

I'm no expert, I'm just going by the pattern evident in the other serial #s listed here, but that number doesn't look right. I think it should have fewer digits and end with a letter. Look at post #2 of this thread and see for yourself.

 

As to Longhorning your Heavy, are you asking whether it's kosher by the "community's" standards or are you asking if it's technically feasible without destroying it? Actually, it doesn't really matter. In either case, the answer is, yeah, go for it. People mod their Heavies all the time, and neither ruin them nor incur wrath from the "elders."

 

Heh, "Longhorning your Heavy." Sounds funny. Kinda like something you don't want someone to do: "Hey bro, don't Longhorn my Heavy!"

 

Or maybe something you'd want to ask permission before you did it: "Hey, mind if I Longhorn your Heavy?"

I see you turn the list over.. This list is getting confusing to me. I know at one time I held the oldest unit with the Serial Number

57020 E and the Date Code of 7722 for 1977 in the 22 week..
