Have you turned into a thrift store troll?

Recommended Posts

I beleive some of this might be in another topic somewhere. If not, please enjoy.

I have been there and it was sad. I didn’t like pushing people out of the way. But I loved to have my hands on the first box of carts they would bring out. Hugging them all to myself until I found out what I did not want. Laughing secretly to others that I found the stash before anybody else touched them.

I’m a lot more laid back now. Yes, I will go over and check out the items. But, I don’t find myself running to them anymore. Drooling over them in my hands. Even talking to other people about what carts are worth more than others.

You know your an Atari Troll when you skip a meal, brushing the teeth, hari, & putting on deoderant, and driving a hundred miles to the next biggest city in search of carts. You have coffee and cigarettes on the breath. You look worse than the guy behind the counter. You ask if he has anything Atari. He says "hugh"? So you proceed to the next thriftstore. The sun causes your eyes to squint. You enjoy the shade of the bridges as you drive under them. The sun is making you tire, you have had no luck finding any at all. You later find out that Albert occupies the city you were searching. Like finding a quarter on a beach with a metal detector! Only to go home empty handed. So you wake up, re-live the same day, grunt and growl a bit because you have nothing new to play and pray you get the time to do it the next weekend. You fall asleep under the cold dark bridge dreaming of a cart score! Oh well, Long Live the Atari Troll in all of us! :) 8)

Years ago when I had more money and time. I would drive 100 miles in each direction from my home town. To hit the thrift stores in other towns. Luckly, I only did it about once every so many months.

I frequent the thrift stores everywhere i visit, In fact it's all i really look for. Next year i should be in the states driving from san francisco to new york, Never been to the states and i probably wont see anything because i'll be looking for thrift stores.

Oh, there is no competition here except for the parasites whom have made a living off ebay, So no fighting or bragging

Um,, i do tend to shower though, The cigarettes and coffee i am guilty of, and sometimes last nights alcohol,,,,,,

I dunno what kind of thrift stores you go to, but I've never seen anyone bring out boxes of old carts or anything like that. You'd be luchy if you found a Venture cart that looked like it was used for toilet paper!

Skip a meal, dont sleep, forget ANYTHING (Im still wearing yesterdays clothes) drive, walk, hitchhike to a thrift, ask if they have any old games

they always say no but I KNOW THEY DO THEY HAVE TO!!!!! and I search

and I look for a good minutes sometimes always ALWAYS AAALLLWAYSSS finding NOTHING?!!?!? WHY?!!, So on I go off to the

next one... repeating the process over and over and over again...

I go home upset and angered that my entire day of searching is all for

naught that even though I gave it my all I find NOTHING nothing at ALL

the piques my interest.

And it happens like this for months... sure sometimes I find

*A* cart. rarely RARELY I game I dont have at least in some form...

I dont even find NES anymore... someone is striking up a deal with them

and it makes me sick SICK. I am going nuts I cant stand finding nothing

any more... i cant deal with it...

ive gone farther than I can get myself out...

This sortof happens to alot of things. Not in the Boise area mind you. Stuff gets picked up so fast in the big city. It isn't even funny. For those who live in Idaho. My best find is in smaller towns. Hopefully right after they put stuff out on the floor.

Things seem to come and go in lots. (Good Luck anymore)

1. Franklin Ace (Seemed a school was behind that bunch)

2. Several Apple II systems. (Once again a school/Personal Users)

3. Texas Instruments (Personal Users)

4. Atari 2600/Carts (Personal Users)

5. Atari 8 bit computers (Personal Users)

6. Nintendo NES (Personal Users)

7. Macintosh systems

I Notice it picks up during the beginning of summer when spring cleaning is or towards the end of summer (Left over garage sale items). I admit most of the big lots are picked through because of ebay. My honest to goodness last purchase of anything good. That I can remeber is a intellivision II. Looked like somebody chucked it in a box with games. Then they just moved the box out of the thrift store floor. Everything was in mint condition. Almost all the carts had manuals/templates. The system looked new due to the plastic holder it was in. Ah, yes the good old days.

My best finds were during a cross country road trip to the west coast and back in 1997. My car was loaded with carts ..

Seems to me if you hit the right year. You got tons of stuff.

Year of computers

Year of old game systems

Year of strange cr*p
