Spare a spring?

I wondered if anyone might be able to help me replace a missing spring on a Mitsumi 800XL keyboard? The keyboard is "Type 5" in the 600/800XL Keyboard Variants thread, and I rather like it. Unfortunately efforts to fabricate a replacement spring for the Break key have been unsuccessful. Here's a photo of the required spring:



Frustratingly, I had a cannibalised example of this keyboard many years ago but rather foolishly threw it away, and later did the same thing with the five console key springs I had kept. If anyone has such a spring spare and doesn't mind parting with it (for a nominal fee, covering postage, etc), a PM would be most welcome!

these are tapered conical compression spring... if you know the true name you should be able to measure yours and get a bag of them fairly cheaply, though I've seen people take a weak pen spring or vcr spring and fashion their own... this shouldn't be too hard to find a suitable replacement... of course a quick measure with calipers will make for super detail oriented bliss.. so measure, picture... contact one of the many spring manufacture/ distributors.... they may even provide you with a sample spring for little or no charge...

Yeah: not completely devoid of ingenuity, I tried fashioning a spring from those I had lying around but with no success as yet. I do not know the part name or number but if anyone else does I have no objections to simply ordering one at some stage.

I just told you the name 'tapered conical compression spring' although some chinese reverse it and make it 'conical tapered'

Yeah: I'm following, but nothing I Googled thus far splays out at the bottom quite like that, so I guess the term is somewhat generic. But no matter... it's low priority, and I'm just putting out an appeal for an original part.

these guys have supplied springs to me over the years.... they have gotten quite big though and might not do small orders... can't hurt to check them out... if they didn't have it they made for us.

Thanks - I'll bear it in mind if no-one has a drop-in original part. The Mitsumi item is clearly not your common or garden spring.

I have a few old 8-bit keyboards in my basement with good springs. I don't know if they are the type you are looking for but I will check

I had the spring used in the Nintendo NES Advantage re-made and most likely could have these made as well. If you can't find one from another user which is your probable best bet go ahead and send me a few sample ones so I can have them made.
