SS
Anyone have an idea as to what is my problem with Rampage might be? ATR or XEX, Altirra or real 800XL (via UNO Cart), when I can even get a file to load it ends up all garbled like this. I tried to build an AtariMax CAR image and it did the same. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions or files that actually might work on a NTSC 800XL via Uno Cart? Thanks. +Stephen
Stupid question, but are you disabling built in BASIC by booting with the Option key down (for ATR or single load XEX)?
+davidcalgary29
You probably have the PAL version. Activision didnt port it for the NTSC market in 1987 and Ataris XEGS port didnt make it out the door. Sunmark did, however, publish a NTSC cart some time ago and someone probably has an image of that. It seems Sunmark itself is long gone. +MrFish
Here's an NTSC version. I have no idea whether I ever tested it out on real hardware, though. Rampage NTSC.xex

Rampage NTSC.xex When the game is left on the title (Demo) screen, the game always crash Altirra after the second round.
Wrathchild
I did the port to the 5200 but looks like I didn't build an NTSC A8 version afterwards so can probably knock one together.

It unfortunately does exactly the same thing on my real hardware too. Edited November 7, 2017 by SS

SIO is the "natural thing" using 8-Bits. Specially all these flashcart ones with XEX or ATR loader have compatibility problems. So use the ATR version and load it via SIO2PC, SIO2SD or whatever you have. When the issue is gone, you know the answer.
+DjayBee
When such issues appear, first way is to try loading it using any SIO device. But in this case it really is the video norm. On NTSC it shows this garbage on screen.
_The Doctor__
Played Rampage quite a bit on the 8 bit in the 90's never saw that mess... It is time to go over the game with a fine tooth comb and make sure it's not only ntsc converted but correct in speed, timing and such arcade wise tweaks maybe.. with the skill set I have seen on Atari Age over the years, it's certain they could do this quite handily... SS
Played Rampage quite a bit on the 8 bit in the 90's never saw that mess... I had almost exactly the same thought yesterday but now I'm wondering if I am erroneously remembering the C64 version instead.
+davidcalgary29
I have the UK Activision release and it's never worked properly on my NTSC machines. It usually loads and then freezes; graphics are jumbled. The NTSC cartridge version that I have is "fine", although the gaming palette is horrendous and controls are jerky. There's certainly room for improvement here if anyone wants to give it a go.

Commode Door? Never opened it... All S-100, Atari, Amiga(AtariMachineintegratedgraphicsarchitechure aka advanced graphics architechure, later aga), x86, TI, Apple, TRS etc... If was pushed towards me, almost any commie works would always was handed off to someone else... of all the machines I found c64 and 128 the least technically and architecturally satisfying.. There were c- machines around, just not in my section, area or home... in any event the game deserves the treatment and a decent fix up, I had never seen the graphics issue but I wasn't one to mix up images when they made it my way... today I have no PAL machines... as for the crashing image... clearly that image is either hacked in error, or damaged... I'm sure someone will tidy it up.. Edited November 7, 2017 by _The Doctor__

There were c- machines around, just not in my section, area or home...I swear it was just a passing fad! I bought a used C64 from a friend when he upgraded. I played around with it for a few years and then it got boxed up for about a decade. I sold off my whole lot of C64, floppy drive, and disks at one of the Philly Classics. I've played around with some Commodore emulation recently and have been reminded why my Commodore eventually got mothballed but my 800XL remains in almost daily rotation. Rampage NTSC.png Thanks for posting info about this. By messing around with this myself in Altirra I was able to inadvertently find a reproducible example of the "Warp Speed" mode lock problem.
