+Stephen #4 Posted November 27, 2017 Thanks I will check those out! Please pay particular attention to the memory alignment requirements! It trips up beginners very often.
Lavalamp #5 Posted November 28, 2017 First Book of Atari Graphics (Page 73) There's also one in the BASIC TurboCharger collection. That TurboCharger has some amazing routines in there , wish I had seen this 30 years ago. Also solved my image loading query. Fantastic. Thanks again! BTW do you know of any digi sound play back ones for basic?
MrFish #6 Posted November 28, 2017 You can also get a lot of similar routines in magazines like: Antic, Analog, and Compute. No, I haven't seen any digi playback routines for BASIC.
Irgendwer #7 Posted November 28, 2017 BTW do you know of any digi sound play back ones for basic? I have to transfer a disk to an ATR - should be done by the weekend...
Lavalamp #8 Posted November 28, 2017 Thanks that would be well received, I did find Parrot software that also shipped with a basic player, it states it will blank the screen while playing the sound which is not ideal. I have to transfer a disk to an ATR - should be done by the weekend..

Irgendwer #10 Posted December 7, 2017 Hi, Did you manage to get round to this for me? Sorry for the delay, I'm currently very busy. I've attached the "Sound'n'Sampler"-master disk. (It's even missing at AtariMania: http://www.atarimania.com/utility-atari-400-800-xl-xe-sound-n-sampler_15982.html ) Load with a DOS to BASIC, then RUN "D:XDEMO.BAS" to have a demo of a sample output with screen on. The format of the samples is quite unusual even for the Atari. AFAIR they have only 2 bit depth - taking this into account the quality is quite good and the memory consumption very conservative. Some demos made with the matching hardware: http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=3671 http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=4881 ...here with BASIC and screen on: http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=3678 Have fun! MrFish #11 Posted December 8, 2017 (edited) Not so great for extended play, as demonstrated (sounds like a badly tuned radio), but for short bursts it'd probably be fine. Pretty cool for BASIC... Edited December 8, 2017 by MrFish

Yes, things like in the BASIC classic "Creepy Caverns" https://youtu.be/M8pUD824Fvw?t=13 http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-creepy-caverns_1398.html should be possible too.
