Hank Rearden
I want to clean the unit before I get my new power supply and controller. I got the top off easy enough but can't remove the PCB from the lower part of the case. It seems to be stuck near the front of the case. It looks like it sits on 2 plastic spikes that come up through the PCB. I'm afraid of breaking the tabs. What am I doing wrong?
NISMOPC
You carefully have to pull it up and off of those two spikes. It will sort of "pop" off when done correctly. It is held in by friction at those two points. I just dealt with same scenario last week. Eventually popped right off. Good luck!
Hank Rearden
OMG.... This is a giant PITA! It won't come off those plastic spikes!

nick3092
This is a serious PITA with these. I have a 4 port that was stubborn, but eventually popped off. And I have a 2 port that despite multiple attempts at wiggling and pulling still wont pop off. Ive always wondered if a penetrating oil would work. I know people use WD40 to clean out pots. So it clearly leaves no conductive residue behind. I wonder if it would be able to penetrate the pegs/holes and loosen the grip.

I can only speculate that was what finally did it. I had it flipped over and was pushing on the shielding from underneath and wiggled and wiggled and wiggled some more. Finally one side popped off then I was able to turn it part way until the other side finally gave way. It was a great feeling. LOL
+-^CrossBow^-
I have never had any issues removing the PCB from the 5200. I usually grab the PCB by the cart port and lift up from the back side of the PCB since there really isn't anything on the back that sticks through the plastic and just lift and pull back to remove it. the 7800 is removed in the same manner. You want a real challenge?! Try cracking open the Colecovision without removing the front bezel screws! I've a got a method on it now that works well but you will always feel like your about to break the plastic on the shells doing it!
nick3092
Next time I give it a go, Ill try your method. Pretty sure I was doing something similar. And yeah, Coleco is a real pain to get the shells separated. Ive opened enough that I think I developed some kind of muscle memory on opening, because I dont know the exact steps I do. +-^CrossBow^-
Forgot to mention that it also helps if you remove the top RF shield first before trying to remove the main PCB. I also forgot that the expansion port on the back left of the PCB can be the one tricky thing to deal with in trying to remove the shield. Other than that, I've not had much trouble in ever removing the main PCB out of the 5200.
