DarQ Massacres #1 Posted November 30, 2017 with the great controversy around twin galaxies I am wondering if there is somewhere to get a good high score leaderboard sort of thing. something that anyone can submit scores, games, etc. and have rules on authenticity with their scores

VectorGamer #3 Posted November 30, 2017 have rules on authenticity with their scores highscore.com Highscore.com is too lax. For example, many MAME scores are accepted using only a photograph as evidence but there is no way to prove that the game was played using certain dip switch settings (if it's even documented in the track). Twin Galaxies is your best bet.
DarQ Massacres #4 Posted November 30, 2017 but with twin galaxies they have scores verified with pictures and by referee, I don't feel these are very good ways of organizing this.
VectorGamer #5 Posted November 30, 2017 but with twin galaxies they have scores verified with pictures and by referee, I don't feel these are very good ways of organizing this. Pictures are no longer accepted for one thing at Twin Galaxies. Just wait to you see how many scores are accepted using only a picture at Highscore.com! It's ludicrous. Why are scores accepted by referee a bad thing? Typically these were scores adjudicated in a tournament setting.
DarQ Massacres #6 Posted November 30, 2017 I feel like if you have a referee there though then it should be recorded for proof other then just he said I did it

DarQ Massacres #8 Posted November 30, 2017 not for retro games, but I've been in multiple new gen tournaments for FPS' and online card games
VectorGamer #9 Posted November 30, 2017 Well what better way to have a score verified than to do it live in a public setting?
DarQ Massacres #10 Posted November 30, 2017 I just don't like how they get verified that way but then there is no way to look at it again years later. for example, Todd Rogers dragster was verified by referee, but everyone knows it isn't possible now
Skippy B. Coyote #11 Posted November 30, 2017 I like HighScore.com personally, and I participate there a lot. It is a great deal more laid back than Twin Galaxies, since photograph evidence is all you need for most scores, but I appreciate that since I don't usually make videos of my high score attempts and when I do it's always a pain to get the camera set up. Not to mention that most of the time when I do get really high scores in games it's when I'm not actively playing for a high score so I wouldn't have even thought to set up a video camera. All of those factors make me really appreciate HighScore.com allowing photo evidence and not requiring a video in most cases.
DarQ Massacres #12 Posted November 30, 2017 (edited) I went onto highscore.com, I think I've been on it before, but I notice that Baz has the #1 spot on the site, haha might as well use this site, it seems ok, but if I find a better site I will probably switch, but I submit my only good atari score I have, my rolled jawbreaker score of 104,650. (I believe a world record but am not sure) Edited November 30, 2017 by DarQ Massacres
+KaeruYojimbo #13 Posted November 30, 2017 I just don't like how they get verified that way but then there is no way to look at it again years later. for example, Todd Rogers dragster was verified by referee, but everyone knows it isn't possible now Todd Rogers also was a referee for Twin Galaxies for a while if I'm not mistaken. I've read rumors that he verified his own scores, but I've never seen any proof that's true. I prefer highscore.com because it's more casual. Of course, I don't bother posting scores that often and think the people who take this stuff so seriously are crazy, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. DarQ Massacres #14 Posted November 30, 2017 haha, I just love having competition, it makes me try harder I find. So I look for contests or competitions to give me more of a reason to play and get better
VectorGamer #15 Posted November 30, 2017 I prefer highscore.com because it's more casual. haha, I just love having competition I like competition too. But I don't like the casualness of Highscore.com - I want scores to be approved based on solid evidence. It's no fun when you question if someone beat your score by playing on easier settings. fiddlepaddle #16 Posted November 30, 2017 I just trust everybody. If somebody's lying, they know it...they're just living in other peoples heads. I've been at top of the list on many arcade machines throughout my life, and that's good enough for me. Bragging is fun, but it's not worth sacrificing relationships, or health, or even sleep. Come to think of it, objective records are essentially irrelevant as competing with myself is the important thing.
