Okay!!!! Got USB optical mouse working on Atari 2600 with SpeedLink and Willingham adapter. Needed USB hub, had to plug Logitech keyboard in other USB port and mouse into PS/2 port. Got keyboard working first by putting in USB port. Mouse button did not work and could not re-assign space bar to mouse button....then realized, since I was using PS/2 adapters, maybe I had to reassign "X", even though spacebar worked on keyboard. This worked!!! I found on the 2600, it works best to use Esc, Insert but not Esc, PgUp, since it is digital. Mouse is very controllable, not crazy slow or fast. More to come, such as 7800 and trying with Innovation SmartJoy adapter.

Wow! Congrats- that is great. I just now am reading through these posts of yours and it's all very intriguing :)

Yeah, I've looked at these. Tempting, but just not quite interested because of the limited amount of games they're compatible with... Really wish someone made another PS1 mouse that would work with all the games, as the N64 mouse seems to do for all N64 games.

unfortunately, that's a pipe-dream.

Have you tried the SpeedLink Redeemer on the PS1/PS2. It should work with all games the Playstation mouse doesn't, I would think...or the xbox smartjoy frag with the xbox to PSx adapter? I cannot find a PSX smartjoy frag or an xbox to PSX adapter (mayflash xp I believe) for the xbox smartjoy frag. The appear to have been plentiful from 2003 to 2008, but now they seems to be off with the unicorns.

Can you post a some pics of those 2 adapters you mentioned.

These are the adapters below: You'll also need a PS/2 keyboard like the Compaq 5137 PS/2 keyboard and a couple of the basic USB to PS/2 adapters from ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Replacement-PS-2-Male-Keyboard-Mouse-to-USB-Female-Computer-Adapter/232094996726?hash=item3609f098f6:g:8q8AAOSwYIxX6KC6

The Willinham PSX to Amiga/CD32/C64 adapter: He usually posts one on ebay every couple weeks - ebay user paulwillingham4d79

I have gotten the above setup to work with the 2600 and the 7800 very well with a mouse in Defender on the 2600 and Scrable and Pole Position II on the 7800. I can even navigate multi-cart menus like the Harmony Encore and Concerto. I have been unable to get the Innovation Smart Joy PSX to PC adapter to work with a mouse (even though the keyboard works), so I won't get into that setup.

There was also the Rys Mk II usb to amiga/Atari adapter. I don't know if it works or not. Ordered it but haven't received it. $25 at amigakit store, $400 on ebay (I messgaged them why and they said it was out of stock so they raised the price really high rather than remove it??? This was a reseller, not the manufacturer. The manufacturer is Retro 7-bit in Poland)

Anyone though of using a Wii Nunchuk directly plugged into an external keypad and 5200 controller head dongle, where you can control the top and bottom button with C and Z, control an analog stick with the stick, and have it self-center, all with one hand, and, just as importantly, either hand, and use your other hand to type in keys as necessary for games that use them or to pause?
