Cybergoth #1 Posted May 26, 2003 Hi there! In my Star Wars craze I just bought an N64 with Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron. I played the first two levels of SotE already and thought the Flight level on Hoth was great, but the following Doom level is only so-so. Well, currently I'm biding for Episode I : Racer and Battle for Naboo on eBay and I thought it would interesting to hear peoples opinions about the four N64 Star Wars titles. Which do you like/dislike and why? Greetings, Manuel
panamajoe #2 Posted May 26, 2003 i played rogue sqaudron and SW racer and i didn´t like any of both. rouge squadron is pretty slow and i never really got into it and SW racer is pretty well done, but in my opinion pretty boring too. But i never really liked the N64 anyhow, i think the look-and-feel of most of the games just isn´t "right"
liveinabin #3 Posted May 26, 2003 Episode 1: Racer was a brilliant game and made full use of the expansion pack. A real sense of speed and that indefinable Star Wars feel (more so than its parent film) - yeah, great game. I haven't played Battle for Naboo yet but, from what I read from interviews with Factor 5, it was kind of on the wrong console - they were ready for Gamecube and the old hardware was creaking under the load a bit - be interesting to see how they managed though. Cybergoth #4 Posted May 26, 2003 Hi there! Episode 1: Racer was a brilliant game and made full use of the expansion pack. Being a N64 owner for less than 48 hours - how can I tell wether I have an expansion pack installed or not? Greetings, Manuel
Vic George 2K3 #5 Posted May 26, 2003 I enjoyed Shadows Of The Empire, though that game was hard in some areas. Could use more games like that. Rogue Squadron was too difficult for me to get into -- too mission-driven. And I haven't played Episode 1: Pod Racer or Battle For Naboo.
Zloch #6 Posted May 26, 2003 If you are looking down on the top of the N64, just below the cartridge slot there is a small cover that comes off and reveals where the expansion pack goes. If you remove the lid and it's empty, you don't have an expansion pack. IIRC, the only thing that went there is the expansion pack. By the way, I think Ep 1: Racer is an excellent game. If you get outbid, I think I have an extra copy. I have to check. Sean
Cybergoth #7 Posted May 26, 2003 Hi there! IIRC, the only thing that went there is the expansion pack. Yeeeha! I have one! By the way, I think Ep 1: Racer is an excellent game. If you get outbid, I think I have an extra copy. I have to check. Thanks, but I just won: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...item=3025943797  Seems like the perfect time for starting a N64 collection, you get everything dead cheap at the moment. Zloch #8 Posted May 26, 2003 Congrats! I agree that now is a good time to start an N64 collection. Even the Gamestop by me has games for cheap. They had Goldeneye and Shadows of the Empire for $10 each. I didn't see a game for more than $16 (Res Evil 2 and Conker). Enjoy your 64! It's really not as bad of a system as people make it out to be. Sean
Lost Monkey #9 Posted May 26, 2003 If you remove the lid and it's empty, you don't have an expansion pack. IIRC, the only thing that went there is the expansion pack. The N64 came out of the factory with a black "dummy" pak installed, the actual Nintendo brand expansion packs were red AFAIK. So to Cybergoth... if there is a black cartridge inside the expansion slot, you probably do not have an expansion pak.
Zloch #10 Posted May 26, 2003 You're right Monkey. There was a "dummy" pack in the slot. It's been a while. Sean
liveinabin #11 Posted May 26, 2003 Yeah, it was called a 'jumper pack'. Manuel - if you're not sure whether you have one or not - get Racer (I presume you are going to anyway) and in it, there is an option to use or not use the pack - figures if it doesn't give you a choice -it ain't there here's a link so you can see what the expansion pack looks like. Thanks. A bit late though - I just broke a finger-nail while trying to get the thing out. I wonder if it's this why it says "Don't remove this" on the sticker attached to it. The sticker was red, so I wasn't sure... Grmblfx, seems like I really don't have it. Sheesh, so I payed almost $20 for a N64 that doesn't even have a RAM expansion... BTW: Is the player supposed to be able to kill the AT-ST in the second SotE level on "medium" or should I start over straight away in the "easy" mode? Suggestions? King Atari #13 Posted May 26, 2003 Haven't played Battle for Naboo yet, but the other three are all excellent. My fav has to be Shadows of the Empire, followed by Racer, then Rogue Squadron.

Geeknout #15 Posted May 26, 2003 Rogue Squadron is the best game if you take the time to master the controls. There are wild moves you can do with a variety of ships. I really liked watching bombs hit targets from way up high as well as flying tie-fighters. Battle for Naboo sucked when compared to RS. It was too confining and alot of moves that were impossible . Shadows of the empire was a good game, but it seemed like it was rushed to meet a deadline. The Racer game was pretty good. I remember the first time I played it, there were parts that really gave me a roller-coaster type rush.
