Best SGM games

Recommended Posts

While waiting for my Super Game Module I want to ask which SGM compatible games are the best to buy actually. So I have a few of them when the SGM arrives ;-)

I see you're in Germany. What's you take on the MSX? The answer to that question will undoubtedly affect the answers you'll get in this thread. :)

If you want do your own opinion about a SGM game without having it Take a MSX emulator (blueMSX for instance) , try the MSX version of the game , and you will have a good idea of what you will have. Then you can decide to buy or not.

SGM games are mainly MSX game Hacks (with sometimes few improvements on graphics or adjustment on gameplay ).

Thanks for the tips - I didn't knew that they are nearly the same as the MSX games. I'll have a look at them! :-)

It should be noted that there are several SGM games that are not MSX ports. For example, there's Dragon's Lair, Zaxxon Super Game, Buck Rogers Super Game and Subroc Super Game that are cartridge conversions of the ADAM computer games. But those are all permanently sold out so it's kind of a moot point. You can possibly get them from eBay if you monitor it regularly.

Then there are homebrews made from scratch, like Mecha-8, Caos Begins, Majikazo and Operation Wolf (all ported from MSX, but they were recent MSX homebrews to begin with) or homebrews that were first made for ColecoVision before being ported to MSX, like Mecha-9, and the upcoming Children of the Night and Wizard of Wor.

The SGM games mentioned above are all Team Pixelboy titles, and you should investigate SGM titles from Opcode Games and CollectorVision. Many of them are MSX ports, but then you have to stop and think about what really matters to you: If you love Gradius, then you should buy it from Opcode Games even though it's an MSX port (with lots of alterations and improvements over the original).

Why not just release the ROMs for download?
