Wow! Thought I'd dig out my NES and play on real hardware as I have the Marble Madness cart.

For me, real hardware with original NES controller is the only way to play this. I suck big time when I try to play on PC using an emulator and PC gamepad or keyboard.

This is probably my favorite game on the system.

I love Marble Madness, but for me, it seems, I play better on emulation than real hardware. That's not true of all games. Some I play much better on real hardware than emulation. I used to play MM in the arcade all the time.

I wonder why that would be. Have you played it more in emulation? It may depend on what you're used to.

I think it's a matter of what kind of movement is involved in the game and what kind of controller I'm using. For example, Super Cobra on the ColecoVision...I absolutely suck playing it on emulation whether I'm using the keyboard for movement or a joystick...but playing on real hardware with a CV joystick I can whiz right through the game. Marble Madness on the NES just seems to play really sloppy for me using a NES joystick. But playing with a different joystick on my PC I seem to have better control. But then some other NES game might be totally opposite of that.

Of course I probably play more CV on real hardware than emulation...and emulation for everything else because my CV and ADAM are set up all the time and I'm too lazy to drag the other systems out for individual games and just wind up playing via emulation.

I really like how the original NES pad feels with MM. My thumb can easily slide around and hit those diagonals with the small directional buttons on the NES pad. But it's all subjective.

NES pads also wildly vary in quality depending on how much they've been abused. MM is one of those games that needs a good condition controller.
