ATARIPITBULL #1 Posted May 27, 2003 I was the highest bidder on ebay for a loose copy of Quadrun at $350.00, but I lost the bid at the last second to some other guy, but this person just told the seller that he could not buy it and was sorry, so the seller emailed me to see if I still want it. Now the question I have for you all is, do you think a loose copy of Quadrun in good shape is worth $350.00 to you, or do you think its too much money? atarigamer #2 Posted May 27, 2003 Well if you have the extra money sittin around... sure! Cause I've seen it sell for $550 before.

In reality, you should both treat the auction as if that other guy hadn't been involved. My reading of it is that the third place guy bid $325, so you should be offered it one bid increment above that. Something like $330 or so. I'm feeling better now. ATARIPITBULL #7 Posted May 27, 2003 Andrew, you are right!! I will offer the seller $330.00, take it or leave it.
tiggerthehun #8 Posted May 27, 2003 Also, you might want to point out to him that (since he hopefully reported the high bidder to ebay as a non-payer) he WON'T have to pay the ebay fees - so that $330 would be perfectly resonable, as ebay would have taken a chunk of the $350, had the guy paid it! And furthermore, point him towards the other auctions still showing up in the search (completed items) with prices well below $300. Did I mention my consulting fee for this advice? ATARIPITBULL #10 Posted May 27, 2003 The seller say's he will take the $330.00 and the shipping will be for free. I NOW HAVE A QUADRUN IN MY COLLECTION!!!!!!!!

BassGuitari #12 Posted May 28, 2003 I'm sorry, but I think $300+ is absolutely ridiculous for a twenty-year-old VIDEO GAME. Especially since the only place where they're actually "worth" that is the internet...try to get that much from your local game store for it and they'll laugh at you. I'm not trying to burst everyone's MagiCard/Air Raid/Chase The Chuck Wagon bubble, I dig all the rare games just as much as the next guy, and I'm really happy for anyone who is lucky enough to have them in their collection. I guess personally, I think I could find something better to do with $300+ Well, supply and demand holds dominion over all...

I guess personally, I think I could find something better to do with $300+ Well, supply and demand holds dominion over all... guess you're not familiar with antiques, collectibles, value and such. Heck, even PBS did a show on collectable games. IIRC they estimated quadraun at around $2,000. so $350 is a good deal. Why shouldn't the few of us who believed in the 2600 and didn't loose the faith while everyone else laughed be rewarded by our games being worth bank? I mean the 2600 IS where the currently Hugemoungous game industry first succeeded. Thats like saying that Ford model T's shouldn't be worth a lot (when they SHOULD and ARE.) rockman_x_2002 #17 Posted May 29, 2003 Ah... so you are the one who won that auction then. I saw the auction on ebay before it ended. Search out of curiosity. And to think my brother was just a thought away from sending off for a Quadrun when it came out, too... Ah well... easy come, easy go (or never see). Congrats on the win!!! Cassidy Nolen #19 Posted May 29, 2003 Good job! Very competitive price. I saw the one in Philly for 300, and thought "Gee, I really should pick that up". Of course, it was gone when I went back for it. Went to a good guy, though. Now if I can just get the box for mine.... Would anyone be interested in a repro of the boxes? They would of course be labeled as repro in BIG BOLD LETTERS, but would look cool on the shelves. Anyone have a scan for me? I have a great print shop. BassGuitari #20 Posted May 29, 2003 Godzilla, relax. All I'm saying is, I wouldn't pay that high a price for a video game. It seems to me that I hit one of your nerves or something, which was not intended, and I apologize. Peace, friend.

MegaManFan #22 Posted May 30, 2003 For the record, talking about $300 for a cart on these boards isn't insanity, it's more like status quo. I think it's common knowledge that that would be a bargain price for an authentic Quadrun cart; stumbling across one in the wild for a buck is everybody's dream but since every re-seller on the planet is looking for the same game hoping to cash in on those of us who want one the odds of even finding one before someone else beats you to it are slim and none, and Slim just skipped town - so forking out mucho grande cash on ePay is the only way to get it unless the luck of the Gods is riding on your shoulders. It's not that you hit a nerve, more that what you were saying was entirely incorrect. Someone can say 'they think no one should pay more than $2 or $3 for a comic book' but I would think anyone with comic knowledge would quickly point out the errors of such a statement, as I was doing with your statement. Room 34 #24 Posted May 30, 2003 A collectible item is only worth what you can get for it from someone who really wants it. In the case of Pitbull's Quadrun, it's worth $330... because that's what he was willing to pay for it! Having spent some time in the past with items that are even more exclusively in the realm of "collectibles," because they serve no useful function, that being BASEBALL CARDS, I know how tenuous any attempt to pin down a value on items can be. Fortunately, I think, we do not have price guides for Atari carts like they have for baseball cards... because the only people who will actually get the price guide value for a card are dealers who arbitrarily set their prices based on the guide and sell to the unsuspecting or lazy chumps who come into their shops. Personally, I would not be willing to spend $330 on an Atari cartridge. I know I will probably never own Quadrun as a result. Does that upset me? No. If I had that kind of money to spend on video game related stuff, I'd rather use it to buy myself a bunch of the consoles I don't own -- a 5200, an NES, etc. and a huge pile of commons for those systems. Pitbull probably owns all of that stuff already, so at this point in his collecting "career" he's ready to shell out for a Quadrun. More power to him. Where am I going with this? I don't know. One man's junk is another man's treasure, I guess. I'd bet a significant percentage of the small number of Quadruns that were produced ended up in landfills because someone just threw them away, considering that old Atari junk to be worthless. Cassidy Nolen #25 Posted May 30, 2003 If you think 330 is bad, try a proto. Or, wait till you try some CommaVid stuff. Did you see the Malagai a few weeks ago? There will always be high dollar collectibles in every community. I do not see it as a bad investment, nor do I think I can retire on it. Somewhere in between, and more fun than art........
