Wierd stuff happening with my XU1541s (multiple units)

Recommended Posts

I have THREE different XU1541s which, when I plug into my workstation OR my laptop, Windows reports as unrecognized devices.

All three. On my Windows 7 x64 workstation, whether using the on-board USB3.0, USB2.0, or add-on USB2.0 card, whether in a hub or direct to the computer. Same with my laptop. All worked fine not just a few months ago.

HOWEVER, when I plug them into a port on my Digi AnywhereUSB/15... they work perfectly fine.

Um, wot?!

For the record, I have also tried numerous known-working USB cables. Once I had one of them working in the AnywhereUSB I installed the latest set of drivers. Works pretty well, except for the dead 1541 :D

A slight aside, has anyone come up with XU1541 drivers for the Amiga? That would be cool.

I am not certain why it is not working on my laptop but on my desktop the answer turned out to be relatively simple.

The AnywhereUSB/15 is a root hub. I found that, while shuffling stuff around on my desk, I had for whatever reason plugged the USB cable for the XU1541 into the USB hub on my Dell monitor. I says, hmmmmm not a root hub. Since I moved the cable over to the actual USB card all seems to be working fine.
