C64/128 games that used more than one Fire Button

I was wondering what kind of programming tricks that were used in those C64/128 games that managed to use more than one fire button? I am well aware that Pins 5 and 9 corresponded to buttons 3 and 2.

Those pins map to the POT ports on the SID, so to read those extra buttons you would read POTX (register $19) and POTY (register $1A.) The Commodore 1350 mouse works this way, as well. It emulates a joystick and uses (IIRC) POTX for the right mouse button.

Gee, thanks OLD CS1. Come to think of it, you have inspired me to conceptualize my own custom C64/128 game controller.
