Just kidding... just got it today... nice Christmas Gift for Funkmaster V. It's fantastic. This game seems pretty big...

Serious question, I'm not a platformer guy... so how big is this game compared to Super Mario Brothers, Adventure Island, Sonic, Scrapyard Dog, Alex Kidd, Bonk etc? Do they all take about an hour to beat?

A complete game takes approximately 1 hour - if no warps are used. Utilizing warps will substantially decrease the time needed. On the other hand, playing the secret level will add ~15 minutes to total game time.

The game contains 5 levels - 8 rounds each, for a total of 40 areas. The secret bonus level 6 adds another 8 rounds, bringing the total to 48 areas to beat. Each video linked above contains a full set of bookmarks to jump right to a specific level and round combination, or boss battle, for hints and tips, if desired.

MrBeefy stated it succinctly when remarking: "..this game is overly fair and power[ups] are plenty in areas with higher up bad guys."

While the game does not try to emulate Super Mario Bros., it is not a stretch to state, for any who have never played, that it can be seen as a "hybrid" of Super Mario Brothers and Wonder Boy/Hudson's Adventure Island, while having its own style and some unique components.

Strategy/tips includes spending the majority of the game running (Run button held down) and firing as/when necessary; however, also true is that this is not a 'speed run' game. For the most part, there is no way to just fly through a round. The player must be careful often and enemy placement is not always the same for all areas throughout the game. Page 43 of another thread contains other hints/tips as well. Remember too, jewel pickup order matters. #JPOM

Additionally, in harmony with the above, ensure the difficulty switches are set properly on the console so one button serves as run/shoot and another button functions as jump on a typical 7800 compatible controller. As explained in the provided link, which button performs what function is assignable.

Good luck and happy gaming, Vin!

Yeah don't speed run. You will cause your own death a lot. Once a baddie is on screen deal with it before moving on.
