rickb20 #1 Posted May 27, 2003 Does anyone know of a web location for instructions for Star Wars ESB other than those here on the AA site? The instructions on this site (AA) seem to be abbreviated or incomplete, because I notice that they don't mention the little flashes that appear on the walkers. I've never owned/played this game until recently and an stumped as to what's supposed to happen with those little flashes (looks like a window or door opening on the walkers). I did notice that one seemed to attach itself to my fighter when flying by, but haven't been able to duplicate that. Also, what do the different game selections do? When using the "game select" switch on the 2600?
tiggerthehun #2 Posted May 27, 2003 The little flashes on the AT-AT's are "one hit" portals... which is basically that... they show up - you hit that spot - and you've got one ex-AT-AT. As far as one "attaching" itself to you, I can only imagine that you happened to be flying by an AT-AT with that "spot" right as the two minute mark came up. Every two minutes, your snowspeeder starts flashing - like the chalice - and you are invincible till the music stops. I believe it also repairs your speeder. Hope that helps... +Cafeman #3 Posted May 27, 2003 Your speeder has damage, as opposed to a 1-hit death? I haven't played the game seriously for about 20 yrs...
Godzilla #4 Posted May 27, 2003 yup, your speeder can take multiple hits. the more 'glancing' the blow, the less damage* you take. you can repair by landing in the valleys, and you can do this 3 three times i believe for each 'force' you get. I used to be REALLY good at empire and could play it for a VERY long time. judicious use of the valleys for repair, and the fact that force recharges your repairs can let you get a good stock of snow speeders built up (which you will need,) later on in the game, sacrificing a life to take out a walker via collision kaimikase becomes a neccessary tactic (and one that is only viable if you've got lots of reserve ships during the levels when the valley & the force can keep you alive for long periods without dying,) * a single hit CAN kill you though. generally if its dead on, you are dead. (I know I mentioned this in the 'fave 2600 star wars thread', empire is my favorite 2600 star wars game. and on of my favorite star wars games of all time (it WAS my all time fave star wars game till I got game cube rogue leader,))

RMila75 #6 Posted May 27, 2003 I played this game to death back in 1983. It was my favorite 2600 game for quite a while. I do have the instructions somewhere...

joshk #9 Posted May 27, 2003 There are instructions in the Atari Tome PDF if that helps at all. http://www.westg8.com/atari/
rickb20 #10 Posted May 28, 2003 These instructions answered all my questions and more. Thanks Josh K. Rick
froggger2 #11 Posted May 28, 2003 My Parker Brothers Atari 2600 Star Wars - ESB instruction books printed in Hong Kong and Taiwan have their pages sewn together rather than stapled together. Did any other companies sew their instruction book pages together?
Flojomojo #12 Posted May 28, 2003 Solid Walkers and Smart Bombs -- what a great game. I had forgotten about those variations. I must give that a try this evening, but only after I find my rapidfire plug.
rickb20 #13 Posted May 28, 2003 Forgive the stupid question, but I've never heard of a rapid fire plug. I am learning soooo much reading this forum. Thanks, Rick
Flojomojo #14 Posted May 28, 2003 Forgive the stupid question, but I've never heard of a rapid fire plug.Well, it's a little device that goes between the Atari joystick and the console plug. If you hold down the joystick button, you can shoot really quickly with little thumb effort. This is what I have, except I only paid a dollar or two for it -- twenty years ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=41009
Godzilla #15 Posted May 28, 2003 i have a boxed pair of rapid fire devices i got for my 2600 back in the day, but mine have a dial on them to control the speed. VERY useful things (for c64, amiga, etc. really anything that uses the atari type controls.)
