New Year, New Jaguar Games

PikoInteractive

Recommended Posts

Might just be a UK Press thing..But when reviewed on PS1, C+VG's Paul Davies did not mince words. .

Jaguar owners should maybe buy this game. Everyone else forget it-unless you bought a 32-bit machine to play 16-bit games..

Said even then it didn't come close to SNES Yoshi's Island..

Rayman was 70 levels of seen-it-done it...

Old ideas dressed in the emperors new clothes. ..

Game was big and testing enough but ultimately a jazzed up 16-bit title..

For Jaguar owners only etc.

Yeah, I just don't get that. I remember seeing all of the screenshots of it thinking it was positively beautiful. And considering how many sequels it got, I'd say it's been one of the most successful 2D platformer games of all time. They did have that 3d one, but it was kind of crap (with the same camera issues most games that came out around the same time had). Good example of bad camera angles was the sequel to Flashback, Fade to Black (which should have had a JagCD release too, I think, though yeah it did have some seriously bad camera angle issues.)

Willie's Adventures

Thanks! That's the one I was thinking of. Would love to see that completed, the Falcon has so few games made for it.

I bought Fade To Black on PS1,completed it, but it was a very frustrating experience at times...

Camera issues, a wretched escort mission where the pensioner you had to escort to safety, walked at a snails pace..

The flying sections felt tacked on etc.

I looked up Willie's Adventures on YT,does indeed look very Rayman..

:-)) I did chuckle, looking at the comments section though, a certain prominent person from the community, who has constantly bemoaned Piko interactive for bringing nothing but old ST games to the Jaguar, now wanted Piko to buy the rights to a Falcon title, which was very much like an existing Jaguar title, finish it and bring that out on Jaguar...

I would love to see it finished and released for the Falcon..which doesn't have Rayman...

You know, if you don't say "this is an ST port" most people would just play it and have fun and probably never even know (because a lot of ST stuff is far better than the shite that got shoveled out for the Jaguar)

They never seem to take into account the enhancements put into the ports either. Oh well, I'm sure its 'easy, rushed work' - must be why so many people have done it :)

Exactly.

Give me ST Llamatron over PS1 Robotron X

any day...

A quality, commercial ST release that had time and effort spent on it back then and now in bringing it to the Jaguar, offers far more enjoyment that some crap Atari just rushed out on Jaguar at the time, just so they had product on the shelf.

Old precious bemoans the ST ports aren't doing enough with the Jaguar Hardware. ..

Well i poured hours into PS1 Bubble Bobble..who's conversion was based on ST code if the late Fergus McGovern of Probe was correct..

Ditto R-Types, Strider, Capcom Generations etc...

None of these tapped into the polygon power of the Sony platform..but i was simply delighted to be playing them.

Plus unless things have changed..asking for people to support the release of something like Heretic instead..might prove...challenging?

As wouldn't such a project use I.D's assets and Heretic source code remains under free general public licence? .

Jaguar owners have never had it so good..

A steady slew of fantastic software being released..which is far more than can be said of it at the time it was commercially avaiable..

Yet still individuals cry foul..

Maybe they should get a thermometer on good 'ole Tom while the ports are running. Not doing enough with the h/w? It's literally at breaking point running the 'emulation' wrapper. A 14Mhz system emulating an 8Mhz system, with audio enhancements? pffft.

Maybe they are too busy pointing out how lazy the commercial coders of the time were...The likes of your Probe, Rebellion, ATD, Mike Disket etc in not pushing the Jaguar for a commercial market that never existed.

Or..pointing out only they know where there is documented proof Quake was started,Imagitec Design suddenly pull a massively improved I-War Engine out of the crack of it's ass that handles lighting and texture mapping at 15 fps, when existing engine struggled with plain shaded polygons on big, open areas...

God forbid they do something like, ohhh i dunno...get blessing of Bitmap Bros or Jeff Minter, to have their titles enjoyed all over again...

Or..approach someone like System 3 and ask how much so we can bring Chips Challenge to NES owners...Putty Squad to

Genesis owners...as that would give them an understanding of how the real world works. .

They will be coding their own titles at this rate, just you wait...

Probably be on The Panther..because. .you know...it's all about the community....

Looks like that thread had the regulars over there a little confused. a very entertaining read though.

Had a look at the rest of the forum. looks like its uk based, Some interesting characters on there.

Yep..it's UK based.

After RetroGamer Magazine switched to Future Publishing, fears were the forum would be closed down, so talk started of creating a new forum as a back up..

Then..certain events happened on RG forum :-)), people jumped ship or were prodded...Retrocanteen sprang to life.

At the end of the day, bit of drama aside,it's quite simple.

Credible, respectable lost Games sites like Unseen64 and GTW..work tirelessly doing what they do and rely on credible information from volunteers..

If Kgramr wants to preach his version of the Jaguar Gospel, rather than have a credible, active role assisting these sites, Atarimania, Atari Age etc..

Then JSIII, Assembler, YT etc all exist..

Taking information from Atarimania, here, Atari I.O, RVG etc, running after everyone who had been spoken to by all of us prior, then popping up on Assembler saying actually that's not the full story or..that dreadful..

I spoke to X but to protect his privacy, i can't name him..then claiming some B.S claim, helped no one.

Pretending Clint Thompson had Phear and was going to give it away as part of an Xmas prize draw...that was just ludicrous..

It made the rinse and repeat..nonsense he had already been sprouting look sane by comparison.

What an earth any of this lot thought would change as a result of anything they did,is beyond me..

Cyrano and Piko go from strength to strength..

Clint is doing wonders

Atarimania have enough of my own material and Scott's files still to go up to last a life time.

Others are using the information for their own personal projects.

What..were we all supposed to raise a little white flag and hand everything over to JSIII?

Dream on.

The community is bigger than anyone's ego or paranoia..

Kgramr can warn, rant, post links to my previous posts, till the cows come home..

Won't change the fact credible research, which takes time, beats coming to the party in fancy dress,late..

Basically.. Report factually and for the love of the subject and greater community..

You'll find K...I know your reading.. You get far better results..others have contacts who have contacts who just might have the missing jigsaw pieces.

I think the link is there because its Fallout from here and other Jaguar related sites.

Seems a small little UK retro forum has had the madness descend on them. Some familiar names popping up. Laird for example seems to have appeared. the thread seems to have been locked down pretty quick.

Just want to mention one thing out of that link from the other forum.

I've never had chats with that guy in regards of prototypes or unreleased games that I recall. But I have had chats about this topic with Lost Dragon. Anyways, I always enjoy talks about IPs, who owns what, and what games might be out there.

To bring back this thread to topic. We have a Jag announcement coming soon (next month) so yeah, hype up.

Not even going to tease us about what it is then?

On point raised..yes, it would of been great if some of the research into lost games had resulted in enough code being done, preserved and shared so it could be completed and released.

Sadly all too often the story was the same..only early coding done, project abandoned, everything lost.

Can't wait to hear more on your next release.

Hmmm... should I install a fan on this chip, or maybe a heat sink?

Not sure if any of you follow Feral Interactive's Linux ports, but they have a teaser radar and they drop clues. Where is our teaser puzzle to try to figure out! ha ha
