Skippy B. Coyote #851 Posted September 3, 2018 (edited) Not the most active week for gaming around here, since the misses and I have had a mutual friend from New York visiting for much of the past week, but it was still a fun week nonetheless. Ineligible Dead Space: Extraction (Nintendo Wii) - 639 minutesLuigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (Nintendo 3DS) - 127 minutesStreetPass Mii Plaza (Nintendo 3DS) - 86 minutes NESDonkey Kong (Played on Donkey Kong Classics) - 25 minutesDonkey Kong Junior (Played on Donkey Kong Classics) - 25 minutes PlayStationClock Tower - 91 minutesTotal Video Game Play Time This Week993 minutes (16 hours 33 minutes) [141 minutes eligible]Individual System Play Times This WeekNintendo Wii: 639 minutesNintendo 3DS: 213 minutesPlayStation: 91 minutesNES: 50 minutes The only game I played any substantial amount of time this week was Dead Space: Extraction, which I decided to do another play through of on Expert difficulty early in the week before our friend from out of state arrived. I only made it 3/4 or so of the way through the game before our friend got here (largely due to the fact that I kept going to back to replay previously beaten levels to find and collect all the weapon upgrades in them) but it was still a lot of fun. Outside of Dead Space: Extraction I also spent a bit of time playing Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon on the 3DS for the first time, which I picked up locally along with Donkey Kong Classics for the NES midweek. The latter of the two the misses and I spent an hour or so playing together, since she's always been a big Donkey Kong fan and had been missing it ever since we traded off our Atari 7800 earlier in the year. Needless to say the NES versions of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior are both fantastic, though significantly easier than the Atari 7800 or original arcade versions; even on the more difficult Game Mode B that we played on. For the spousal unit's gaming time this past week, there wasn't a lot of it. Other than a few rounds of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior on the NES the only game she played was Clock Tower on the PlayStation, which she was working on her second play through of until our friend came to visit. Looking ahead to next week there probably won't be a ton of gaming time logged by either of us, since our friend is going to be here until Sunday night and we've got a convention to go to over the weekend. That's alright though, sometimes it's good to get out of the house and socialize a bit with our free time. Until next time, and as always, best wishes and happy gaming to you and yours! Sega Master System (15) An emphatic return to the top for Kaboom and, especially, for the Atari 2600, which totally dominates the system chart this week. The Jaguar also makes a strong showing, taking the #2 spot on the individual charts with Tempest 2000, though it's just edged out on the system charts by a consortium of games on the C64.
cimerians #853 Posted September 5, 2018 I'm working on selling a big C64 lot, so I got out a monitor, disk drive, and an SD2IEC that I want to sell. That led me to play some disk based games. The original Jumpman is still impressive to me today. I couldn't ever remember finishing the Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced stages before, but I easily made it through "Beginner" over the weekend. I also like Jumpman Jr, but with all the options and little touches they put into the original Jumpman, it makes you wonder which one is the sequel. I like this game format so much, I think I may finally give Wizard and Ultimate Wizard some time in the coming week. Jumpman and Jumpman Junior are great I still like them, a hidden gem on the c64 is Ultimate Wizard. It had a construction set and was an improvement on Jumpman in a lot of ways. I remember getting those in the mid-80s from Toys R Us. Toys R Us had a really good section of c64 games.

Kurt_Woloch #859 Posted September 9, 2018 Here are my times for this past week (September 3rd through 9th)... Atari 7800: Baby Pac-Man (WIP) - 27 min. in 2 sessions I played two more sessions of Baby Pac-Man this week... one after Bob (Pacmanplus) abandoned the game and posted its source code. In the 2nd session I played a newer version of it which is contained in the ZIP file with the source code. After that, I started making changes to it myself and contacted Bob about it after they were successful, and now he's relying to me to implement some things he can't wrap his head around.
Eltigro #860 Posted September 9, 2018 An all Atari week for me... 2600 (via Flashback Portable) 2005 Minigame Multicart Jet Man - 5 min (A pretty fun little game that I probably would have played more of if I hadn't been sitting outside. The screen on the portable is a little reflective and the lasers in this game were a little hard to see. A higher contrast color would have been better.) 2048 2600 Puzzle - 5 min (This is the sliding number puzzle game 2048. It was on mobile devices recently. You slide the puzzle in the four directions to slide tiles with the same number into each other. They then become a new tile with a new number equal to the two previous ones added together. For example, slide two 2 blocks together and they become a 4 block. Anyway, I just played for a bit while waiting on laundry. Wanted to see what it was.) 21 Blue - 5 min (A blackjack game. A picture of a woman up top is the dealer and she "says" things after each game. "I can't lose!" "You're hot tonight!" Things like that. You can bet and get insurance and everything, but it's really a pretty basic blackjack game, but nicer visually than the original 2600 Blackjack. The picture of the woman would have surely wowed gamers if this had come out in 1980 or something.) Keystone Kapers - 15 min (Probably one of my favorite 2600 games. But as soon as those shopping carts start flying about four or five levels in, I start losing quick. I've got this emulated on both my computer and my Flashback Portable. Guess I need to pick up the actual cart at some point...) Trump Invaders - 5 min (C'mon... you see a game called that and you've gotta try it. It's a Space Invaders clone/hack with the aliens replaced with a Trump's face, and the letters T, R, U, M, P. The laser cannon you control has been changed to a dollar sign. It's good for a grin, but after that, it's just Space Invaders.) Jaguar Tempest 2000 - 101 min (Playing more for the Jaguar HSC. Not as many minutes this week as last, but I did get a new personal high score of 492104. Accidentally completed a bonus level, which warps you ahead 5 levels (with according increase in difficulty) or it might have been higher.)

Side note - I think Jumpman may have taught me the meaning of the word intermediate as a kid.
Skippy B. Coyote #865 Posted September 10, 2018 (edited) Not a terribly busy week for gaming around here, but what time we did log was relatively evenly split between classic and modern games. Throughout the week we played half a dozen or so 2 player games of Donkey Kong, then one night when we were both up late after our guest had gone to bed we played through one of our old mutual favorite games: Sonic 2 on the Genesis. As usual we traded off the controller between zones but this time around we actually managed to get all 7 chaos emeralds over the course of our play through, which doesn't happen all that often. We also played a fair bit of Mortal Kombat on the Genesis together as well when we had some free time to kill. The only other games that were played around here over the past week were a couple 3DS games that I played between panels and activities at the convention over the weekend, mostly just to clear out StreetPass hits that I got at the con since it seemed like my StreetPass plaza was filling up with visitors every half hour or so as we walked around the convention center. And oh, there was one other very cool game that I got a chance to try for the first time this past week! When we took a trip to Can-Can Wonderland to play a round of miniature golf I stumbled on a fully working Baby Pac-Man machine in their arcade, and holy guacamole did I ever adore that game! I've always loved both Pac-Man and pinball, and Baby Pac-Man combines them together brilliantly. The Pac-Man portion of the game was much harder than any other Pac-Man game I've ever played, but I get why the designers made it that way since the increased difficulty makes it necessary to take frequent trips through the lower escape tunnels; which lead you to the pinball portion of the game where you can earn power pellets and extra lives that will aid you in the Pac-Man portion of the game. I only had the time to play Baby Pac-Man twice before we had to leave for dinner, but I'll definitely be going back next week to play some more if I can make the time for it. At this point I can safely say that if I ever have the cash to buy an arcade machine then there is no question in my mind that a fully restored Baby Pac-Man machine would be the one I'd get. It's just such a wonderfully unique game and probably the only way I could ever fit any kind of pinball machine in my apartment. That's all for this week, so until next time and as always, best wishes and happy gaming to you and yours! Edited September 10, 2018 by Jin
+thegoldenband #866 Posted September 11, 2018 Working on times now, and realized things got so busy that I neglected to post mine: Nintendo 64: BattleTanx - 68 min. Centre Court Tennis - 187 min. One nice thing about tennis games: how easily they can be played in the background when you're on the phone (for business, family support, etc.).

carlsson #868 Posted September 11, 2018 Also not entirely common to have two versions of the same game on the top 10 list at the same time. Last year that seem have happened thrice: two times Kaboom! for 2600 and 5200 were on the top list, once Ms. Pac-Man for VIC-20, C64 and 2600 all were on the top list at the same time. Obviously I don't count DOOM and DOOM II as the same game, just like different installments of Phantasy Star, DAIVA etc likely aren't the same game under different names for different systems.
