Shaggy the Atarian #1 Posted January 5, 2018 I'm doing some research for an arcade project and was needing to find out some info on the current status of Exidy. From what I can tell, Mean Hamster Software owns the rights to all of the Exidy produced games which they bought in 2006 but MHS is currently defunct. A company called CollectorVision bought the rights to the Exidy name and logo but not the games...which appears to be used for just T-shirts? Is this all accurate or are there additional details that aren't gracing the Wikipedia page?
Shaggy the Atarian #2 Posted January 5, 2018 Ok, looks like I might be mistaken - looking at the Exidy Facebook page, CollectorVision owns the Exidy name and IP. If that's still wrong, LMK
+Gemintronic #3 Posted January 5, 2018 I'd definitely hit up the Collectorvision people. Keep in mind that if things are still in progress they might not be able to confirm or deny much.
Shaggy the Atarian #4 Posted January 5, 2018 I'd definitely hit up the Collectorvision people. Keep in mind that if things are still in progress they might not be able to confirm or deny much. Do you mean if they are still in negotiations for buying Exidy IP? Either way you're right, they do seem to be the ones to talk to. Thanks!
mr_me #5 Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) According to the following, in 2006 Mean Hamster licensed the development rights from Exidy for all Exidy games. I think HR Kauffman, the founder of Exidy, would still have copyrights on the original games. http://www.meanhamster.com/no_flash/press.php In 2007, HR Kauffman gave permission for some of his Exidy games to be downloaded for free for use with the Mame Emulator. http://mamedev.org/?p=136 Regarding Collectorvision, my understanding is that they simply registered the unused Exidy trademark. I haven't seen anything to indicate they licensed or aquired any copyright properties from HR Kauffman. Edited January 6, 2018 by mr_me

This explains why on things like Exidy games showing up on the Arcade Legends 3 still show HR Kauffman - but Collectorvision does seem to operate the Exidy facebook page where they developed some Exidy classics for the ColecoVision as well as working on Venture for the NES. That's where it's been a little confusing.
