amiman99
Hi, In my spare time I have designed a replacement for the joystick coupler. It it of my own design, different from the original or the one on Thingiverse, which is based on the original. I'm willing to sell these couplers and I'm wondering if there is any interest in these. I have a nice 3d Printer that I can print them on demand. It take about 6hrs to print one, so probably I can do one a day. I don't have a price set for that, but I'm thinking between $10-15 plus shipping. Thanks I'm also working on Atari 7800 coupler for the original joysticks. Here are some pics:

Inky
Do those slide out of the unit? I recall the original coupler had a ridge on it that acted like a clip
AtariBrian
Very cool. A 7800 coupler would be awesome !

amiman99
Can you do a black color also. If more people requests Black color then I can print in Black. Right now I print using PLA plastic which is easier to work with. I have one roll of black ABS plastic that I did not touched yet, so I could use that.

pacmanfever1970
I'd be interested in buying both the 5200 and 7800 versions

BassGuitari
Definitely interested in a 7800 version in black. Luckily I have an original one for the 5200 so I'm good there.
AtariBrian
How well would this plastic hold up do you think ?
Inky
Yes, they slide in and out, and grips pretty good. I meant do they slide out accidentally during play.
The Lizard King
Can I just buy the .stl file and print it out for myself?
amiman99
I meant do they slide out accidentally during play. It's pretty tight, so it should stay in.
amiman99
Can I just buy the .stl file and print it out for myself? I haven't decided yet if I want to go this route, but probably yes.
The Lizard King
I haven't decided yet if I want to go this route, but probably yes. Kewl. I won't give/sell the file to anyone else -- not that I know ANYONE else who plays with this game system anyway!
SoundGammon
I'll take a 7800 version!
amiman99
I'll take a 7800 version! I'm still working on this one, way too many curved edges...
amiman99
My first try modeling the 7800 coupler, fit is a little too small, got to go back and fix this... I printed one side to see if it fits...not yet
0078265317
Or just found an original for sale. A little much but at least with game and box even though sligthly beaten. Coupler all the way at bottom 49.99 looks in good shape. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00GW4XRT4/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all or here is a 40 make offer, coupler included. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Vintage-Robotron-2084-For-Atari-5200-Complete/332518689962?epid=56236341&hash=item4d6ba88caa:g:E4kAAOSwHUhaMJO6 Edited January 17, 2018 by 0078265317
Lynxpro
Looks cool! I own 1 of the 3 7800 ProLine joystick couplers made - but never released - by Atari. I found 3D scanning it was a PITA and beyond my hardware and bottom line after shelling out $300 for it. What might be even more in demand would be to design a coupler for standard Atari CX40 joysticks. Atari made one for Robotron: 2084 for the Atari 8-bit computers but it's flimsy; same with the one Bally made for 2600 Spy Hunter. A more sturdy one would be a boon for 2600 owners, 8-bitters, and 7800 owners wanting to use dual CX40s instead. As for this one, a sturdy base would definitely be of use...the Atari original didn't really have one. Something like an NES Advantage-like base that this could be mounted to. It might keep someone from accidentally snapping the middle portion in half. Edited January 21, 2018 by Lynxpro

Let me do some research and see what I can do. What do you mean the CX40 coupler is flimsy, does it bend, break etc?
amiman99
OK, The 7800 Version 1 coupler for the original 7800 joysticks is done. I added a clip at the end of the coupler to try to prevent slippage. The wedge design of the joystick does not help. It took me longer then I wanted and few prints to confirm measurements. I need a opinion on what is the preferred way to hold the joysticks with the coupler during play, is it on the table, in your lap, hands?? Personally, I tried holding in my hands and using my thumbs to control.
