Flat toothbrushes?

Hello,

 

I usually buy the cheap packs that have 7 or so toothbrushes to clean electronics. The old style that had the flat brush was so much more useful for this but I can't seem to find anymore like this anywhere as all of them seem to be designed now shaped to clean your teeth better. I've searched ebay and found a flat firm brush for $8.35. I'm looking more for like a 10 pack for $3. Does anyone know a good source for these?

Interesting question; got me thinking. Like you, sometimes I need a tool that is almost, but not quite, available.

 

So I decided to take out an old toothbrush with flayed bristles (yes, I keep them around for cleaning, etc) and used a good pair of scissors and just cut along the top edge trimming off bent parts of the bristles, leaving a clean, flat brush. Very easy.

 

Also, now I have a shorter brush that actually fits into the end of a game cartridge!

But anyway, I have an old toothbrush that I use on occasion for cleaning... I've mainly just used it to clean shells of dirty game systems... most recently it was used with some dish soap to scrub a couple of Atari 2600s. Didn't need it to do any fine work. As long as it could clean the dust out of those ridges on top, it was good enough for me. It's an Oral-B that has kind of a thicker tuft at the end that was helpful at getting into some cracks and crevices.

Yeah I wasn't thinking at the time not sure why it was brought up in the context really though what was the point in bringing it up, which is why I was thinking more like the ew gross.

It's kind of weird that this came up. Just last night I bought a strange looking 'bottle cleaning brush' for similar tasks.

I like the bristles on the end, and want to see if they're decent for cartridge slot contacts.

If it doesn't work, I'm only out $1, since I kind of doubt they'll survive contact cleaner.

 

I was shopping because I used to have an aerosol can of radioshack-branded contact cleaner with a nice, firm brush that attached to the can nozzle.

Years of rough use damaged it to the point where the only place the contact cleaner goes is on my hands, so something needed to be done.

About the "gross" comment, I'm just the kind of guy that when I see an opportunity for a joke, no matter how lame, I take it. (Just ask my girlfriend... she hates it.)

 

Also, I remember the techs using brushes to clean contacts and boards and such when I worked at a Fluke repair facility, but I don't remember what kind they were now. I know we went through a whole lot of ID Red.
