Recommended Posts

guy came in the shop today with a bunch of stuff and this 1541c was one

ive seen the mod to switch drive numbers

but why would this have a potentiometer on it

? drive speed adjustment

must have been doing some crazy stuff since they added that huge cooling unit on top lol

Yeah, my guess is to adjust drive speed. Any idea to what that potentiometer is connected?

hmmm interesting

any info on that RAMBOard by chip level designs 1988

didn't probe any further but the wire goes under the drive and looks like it does go to the drive motor

hmmm even more interesting

EDIT

also looks like the cooling unit is actually the sidecar cooler from a apple //e

Several of the disk copiers then relied on a certain drive speed to copy specific titles. SuperCard needed a specific speed as did others that supported RAMBoard. Maverick came with a flyer that you could order a drive speed controller that looked exactly like that. Quite handy if you were duplicating some hard to copy disks.
