PAH #1 Posted January 25, 2018 I have a CyberTech S-Video mod in my 2600 and would (sometimes) like to hook it up to my computer monitor which only has HDMI inputs. I tried a Tendak converter, but it wouldn't recognize the chroma signal from the CyberTech; I just got black and white (and grays). (Yes, the Color/B&W switch was set for color.) I tried adjusting the contrast/brightness/saturation on the CyberTech but the Tendak still wouldn't output a color image. Has anybody used an S-Video to HDMI converter with a CyberTech S-Video modified 2600? If so, what brand/model converter worked for you? Thanks, Pete
+Nathan Strum #2 Posted January 25, 2018 Important note: I've only used the following converter at work. I have yet to actually hook my CyberTech'd 2600 up to one. The converters are all buried in equipment racks and are inaccessible. So if you buy one, make sure you can return it. That said - the only ones that work satisfactorily for me are Gefen's: http://www.gefen.com/product/composite-hdmi-scaler-GTV-COMPSVID-2-HDMIS They're expensive, but I went through a bunch of others (including a clone of yours), and the Gefens are the only converters that cleanly scale S-video and let you have proper control over aspect ratio. Given other Gefen products, I would expect it to work. But again - I haven't actually tested one with my 2600. It's on my "to-do" list.
PAH #3 Posted January 29, 2018 Thanks. unfortunately, the Gefen is quite expensive. I'm going to give the Monoprice converter a try; I've seen people mention having success with older consoles with that one. I'll return it if it doesn't work.
+-^CrossBow^- #4 Posted January 29, 2018 Thanks. unfortunately, the Gefen is quite expensive. I'm going to give the Monoprice converter a try; I've seen people mention having success with older consoles with that one. I'll return it if it doesn't work. I use the monoprice conveter and it works fine on my 7800 and other consoles I've modded. However, you cannot control the aspect ratio. So all video out from the HDMI will be treated by default as 16:9. Only way to correct for this, is if your TV allows you to force a 4:3 aspect on HDMI video inputs. My first Insignia LED I used, did NOT allow this but my Samsung and current Sony Bravia do allow me to force 4:3 aspect on HDMI. So the converter is much better for me now nearly 6 years later. keilbaca #5 Posted August 25, 2018 Sorry for the necro, but I have been digging through all of the old forums, to find the s-video mod that I got years ago and I found this. The reason why, is because that video mod, I got mid revision from when they were tinkering with hardware and trying to make the best s-video mod possible. Anyways, to my point. I got this, and it works wonders. http://www.retrotink.com/
gorfcadet #6 Posted October 14, 2018 I didn't want to start a new thread, but felt this was appropriate for VCS gamers as well as 7800. The RetroTINK as absolutely the way to go here. I've been using it with my AV modded 7800 (Thanks Crossbow) and this thing is the real deal (RetroTINK). I love it for hooking up my 2600 and 7800.
+-^CrossBow^- #7 Posted October 15, 2018 Yeap I've heard good things about the retrotink. If I didn't already have my upgraded AV setup now with my Extron 7SC in combination with my OSSC through VGA I would be all over the Retrotink. But news about it came to my ears several weeks after the fact. Good to hear the 7800 works well through it though as I was curious.
