lais #4 Posted July 16, 2003 ANY THE COLOR ONE? An ATARI 520STfm This is still vague. Even within Atari's product line there are several models and revisions of colour monitor, then you have to consider their condition. For example, what use is it to have the SC1435, a superior monitor to the SC1224, especially the ones with a very dark image, if the phosphors are severely burnt? What exact specification is the 520STFM? Has it had any upgrades fitted, like additional RAM? High density floppy? Newer TOS? Serial port acceleration? I recently walked into my local music store, which has a basket full of various STs all for the same price of £25. There were STFMs, STs (no floppy or modulator) and two 1040STEs. I didn't just pick any one, I got them to switch them on, and as it happened, one had a faulty power supply (which I could tell by experience, from the buzzing noise). The one I took away actually had 2 MB RAM as well, so there's often more to it than face value.

The 520STfm is not as good as my 1040STf the difference is that the 520 has a 4 MB Ram update and the 1040 has a 1 MB RAM. also that the 520 has the RF modulator and the 1040 does not but the 520 only displays B/W when plugged through a TV and the Power Supply works when she wants to!! So thats why I was offering the 520 to get a monitor for my good 1040... I know basic stuff about the ST line because Im only planning to use my ST for Midi-purposes only Im big on the 8-Bit Line but I know little about the ST's. I a sense that I know enough to defend myself in a conversation about the STs... Thanks for your information and interest Take Care
